That’s not what I’ve said... read all my posts on it again. You appear to be assuming that if we signed a keeper, we wouldn’t shift one on.

I’m assuming any keeper we sign would be to replace one leaving.
Ahh think I misunderstood. I read your post as "if nothing changes (no keeper is sold) after we sign Bart, then that'll be okay."

I thought it was a strange move to bring in yet another goalkeeper when there are a lot of other position that need urgent attention
I don't think Gunn or McCarthy are top quality but they aren't awful like our CBs and strikers

From what I have seen of Angus, I think that he certainly has to potential to become that IMO.

All the noises suggest we are likely to sign him.
Bournemouth show an interest and apparently outbid us.

Saints: "Never wanted him in the first place"

Could be a bit of both. Any club could always use a good young player, and perhaps we liked what we saw in this kid. But at the same time, GK is probably not our area of biggest need. So it was a bit of a luxury purchase.

It's cost/benefit equation, especially when it comes to younger players. There's a chance that any prospect will be a bust. We bid accordingly. If we think we can get a player for 10m who in a few years will be worth 15m, then it's a worthwhile bid (even if we don't sell them). But if Bournemouth or someone else is just going to go ahead and bid 15m on him right now, then there's no potential profit. We don't need to pay market value for a keeper when we already have two good keepers.

We probably showed a bit of interest and that got blown up into we were 100% signing him. And then someone bid more than we were willing to pay, and the club to pacify the supporters and to not seem desperate in negotiations says we never wanted him at all. We wanted him a little. We probably still want him a little. We'll buy him if the price is right, and if it goes past that we'll just move on.
