I can only assume we are selling McCarthy for 20m or something similar to give us decent net profit whilst retaining 2 good keepers

Either we have pretty much agreed deals for McCarthy and Forster to leave or this is a silly risk.

We dont need a keeper and €10m is a decent chunk of our budget.

If I recall correctly we only paid about £3m for Alex so hopefully make profit on him, and as beef said the board are bending over backwards for Ralph .....so you never know it might one of his targets.

I'll never be unhappy at us buying players that are going to strengthen the squad and the full story won't be realised until the end of August.
A bit sooner than that, the window closes on 8th August.

By the way, a reminder that neither of the deals rumoured to be “close” can actually happen until the 11th June, when the international window opens.

Great shot stopper, his performance against Inter on the final game of the season earned lots of praise.

As ever with keepers, it’s the concentration and organizational/commanding skills which sets the best apart.

Would be pleased with this signing

No it isn't

Perhaps McCarthy wants to leave, perhaps he's not considered good enough (though he did a job for us initially), but if he goes for whatever reason and Forster isn't good enough then we need another goalie as injuries happen, so have no problem with getting in a replacement. It's not as if he is likely to be our only purchase. And our strikers need to score one fewer goal for every goal a keeper stops....some people talk as if a keeper is some kind of luxury we can't afford.

The thing about having a quality second keeper is you need to be able to play them in the cup matches, which means runs in the Europa League and deep into the domestic cups for us, neither of which we did last season. Surely he’s coming to be second choice.
