I was always hoping of a day when we would face each other in a UEFA Super Cup...but I hoped that we would be the CL winners and you would be the EL winners instead
They always have them in the weirdest locations. Bit of a trek, too. Although that being said, Istanbul is a wonderful city.
Wednesday Aug 14th in Istanbul. See you there. Looks like that's after the PL season has kicked off, which is fine because by then we'll have signed N'Obody and de Zilcho to provide squad depth.
In the spirit of our victory last night, a part of me wanted to magnanimously congratulate the Chavs on reaching the Europey Final. Fortunately that was a very small part of me - and the major part reminded me that the Chavs represent so much that is wrong with the modern game. Feck you, Frankfurt!
Do you fancy your chances against them on June 1st? I'd assume they would be favourites, given their league position and the results of the head-to-head meetings between both of you, but it's a Cup final and (even though it is a cliche), anything can happen. Plus, Klopp's record in his last 8 finals isn't good. I'd say Liverpool are slight favourites, but I wouldn't say you're massive underdogs. It'll be a close game. What do you think?
Our PL meetings with them were strange games. We lost the first 2-1 but probably should've lost 6-1, and lost at Anfield by the same scoreline but probably should have won! The gap between us in the league suggests that they are firm favourites. There is also the added factor that they will likely suffer a deadline day title defeat and will be massively up for it. However, we do tend to play much better and with more freedom when we're the underdogs. If Kane can get himself fully fit in the next 3 weeks we're in with a chance but he'll be lacking match sharpness. The Anfield game showed that they couldn't cope with Sissoko's driving runs and didn't particularly enjoy the pace of Moura and Son. Van Dick is a superb defender but isn't the quickest on the turn. If nothing else, our whole CL campaign has taught us to never stop believing and a single 90 minute game can and often does have totally unexpected results when stacked up against a 38-game marathon. Rush of blood for an early red card and the dynamic changes there and then, irreversibly. So in summary what I am really trying to say is as long as we don't play Trippier, we will be fine.
We've got VAR, so we should be fine! The team looks knackered. Our form's been horrible and I expected us to lose to Ajax. Maybe the break after this Sunday will do them good, but a lot of them are out on their feet. We outplayed them at Anfield though and should've won comfortably, but spurned several good chances. The Champions League seems to want us to stay in it this year, for some reason, so maybe this time those chances will go in?
I wonder Brunel whether we're going to have a North London clean sweep of the two competitions. You've certainly breezed through to the final whereas Chelsea struggled mightily. Your form in this cup is better than your league form and better than Chelsea's in the EL. So I'm going to be bold and say your name is on the cup. Now, we've been lucky and it's skin of the teeth stuff for us in the CL and I've a feeling the luck won't run out. Last gasp in the group stage, last gasp against City and death throes against Ajax. Teams that do that normally go on to win the competition. So I think you'll be seeing us in the CL next season.
Bottom of the CL group with 1 point after the first 3 games, but somehow qualified after 6. Knocked out Dortmund when we were told they were a super power dominating the Bundesliga this season Knocked out City who were supposedly the best team in the competition Came from 3-0 down to beat Ajax in 1 half of football, scoring the winner in the last second of the game.... You do have to wonder if it’s meant to be. What ever happens, it’s been incredible to have had the run we’ve had despite all the issues we’ve had this season.
Brunel, I'd like to know what a gooner thinks about the fact that we have done this in the last two rounds without Harry. Your thoughts please. Roo has answered your question for me very comprehensively, I can't add to it.
I do find it amusing the lengths you go to get fans of rival clubs to support your theory we should sell Harry and that we are a better team without him. And just so as to be completely correct with regards the facts of the matter Harry did play against City in the quarter final 1st leg, and we were playing better in the first leg when he was on the pitch.
Where have I said anywhere to Brunel in that post about selling Harry? There was no implication of it. Secondly, against City, didn't we score when Harry went off? Also to be completely correct, you said "Fans" of "Rival Clubs", Brunel's the first I've asked from a rival club, no plurals, only singular.
I don't know what it is but one of our posts was misinterpreted yesterday as a wum and now your response TCM is tantamount to the same misinterpretation.
What about Bobby the Chelsea fan? You have certainly engaged him in talk about us being better without Kane. Scoring a goal doesn't mean the team played better once Harry was injured, we were shading an even match when Harry was on, City had there best spell when he went off as suddenly we weren't pressing the defenders as much. Leading the line is not all about scoring goals, Kane is a fabulous goalscorer, but without him we don't close down anywhere near as effectively. Our goal in that game was fabulous but was as much about Delph bad defending as it was Eriksens superb pass. Maybe based on his performances since the City match we should contemplate cashing in on Sonny too? Because to be honest in the last few matches he has really gone off of the boil
Brunel is the first I've asked, Bobby was part of the conversation and as regards Brunel, I merely asked for his thoughts as the question was posed, nothing hidden...........ok TCM. A lot of goals are scored by bad defending so you can't single that one out because Harry went off, that's not a reason. Now, about selling Son, is that a leading question or your genuine thoughts? I say no because I've said before he's more effective than Harry. I'm not the only one who's suggested selling Harry but this thread isn't about that is it, you broached this subject TCM, I didn't. All I'd like is Brunel's thoughts on what I asked, nothing more.
