Yes, Farage has repeatedly come on our National TV and advised us how to vote or tried to ridicule what we voted for. Google it, there are hundreds of examples. Farage grates us over here but rather than get annoyed, we just laugh at him.

Ok, fair enough, I'll try the same approach to Ms McGuinness, but I have a feeling it won't go down well. The EU take themselves very seriously :emoticon-0100-smile

Whatever gives you the impression that soon A United Ireland and an independent Scotland are about to happen, and as usual you appear to only read or see news or items that seem to prove you right and everybody else wrong and you continue to pour scorn on the average Anglo Saxon just for being one.
Well Scotland might but I doubt it one day become independent but as for Northern Ireland leaving the union and becoming part of the Republic finally proves you have absolutely no idea of Of anything other than your Euro bubble world politically or otherwise.
Are you on medication for delusional behaviour or are you in fact a real life Walter Mitty type character ?

I wouldn't say a United Ireland will happen anytime soon but, 56% of people in NI voted to remain in the EU despite the Unionist parties advising their constituents to vote leave. The only way those 56% will get what they voted for is to push for reunification of both parts of the island. The demographics are changing quickly in NI too and the last assembly elections, parties in favour of remaining in the Union were a minority for the first time ever. Sinn Fein are pushing for a referendum on a United Ireland. To my mind, they would lose that at the moment. I think if they waited 20 years they would have a better chance of success than at the moment especially as the Republic is doing really well economically. To summarise, Brexit has brought the prospect of a United Ireland far closer than it was pre-Brexit. Just my opinion.

Well I travel a lot to Cavan and have many Irish friends ... medication:I do smoke a pipe full of hedgehog clippings with my gyspy relatives when I am there. United Ireland It’s getting closer on the ground in Eire for sure. I have mates in NI most from the U.K. but a lot of them are ****munchers

Sorry if I missed it, but a quick skim read of recent pages of the thread and I couldn't see any comment on the updates to the story about the death threats made against Rosie Cooper (not to be confused with Yvette) and the related commentary about Jack Renshaw?

I'd recommend watching this video from Hope Not Hate:

Scary stuff, especially considering the very sad murder of another female Labour MP, Jo Cox, just three years ago. I seem to recall that a number of other prominent MPs (Boles, Berger, Flint, Abbott all spring to mind) have shared evidence of credible death threats in recent months/years.

Whatever one thinks about the decisions of the day, this video really should give you pause for thought about whether the somewhat lazy caricatures of MPs often portrayed on this thread and elsewhere are really true. I certainly wouldn't want to be given an impossible task, and then have to cop vile abuse online, receive death threats in the post, and get paid less than a local headteacher.

No one deserves death threats, vile hate mail etc.

But it remains a fact that many, many people consider the present members of parliament to be the worst, most self serving, lying, treacherous, egotistical and out of touch cretins in the history of our parliaments of the past 100 years or so.

Just a reminder that a convicted fraudster recently released from prison and wearing an electronic tag has more influence over the future of Brexit than you, or me.

Maybe our current system is a *bit* **** after all.

I believe they have always been that but this time around the system has been rightfully exposed
Prior to Brexit we didn’t even have a politics thread

The point I'm trying to get at is that there is, as I think you'll be able to appreciate, an inherent tension in your two paragraphs.

What is self serving about being in a job which leads to abuse, death threats, and the general populace thinking of you as a 'liar', 'out of touch' or a 'traitor'?

It's not a working condition I (or I guess many others?) would want. The current crop of MPs might be of low quality, and I'm often baffled by decisions they collectively take, but I stop short of questioning their motivations for doing what they do when I watch videos like the one I posted.

Interesting comment in the Telegraph about the convice in the House: The vote was at 10pm and Onasanya's curfew was up at 7pm. Last night's vote is void.

I agree with that. There is a world of difference between voting and debating to achieve the outcome which, in your opinion (not necessarily your party's) achieves the best outcome for your country albeit unsuccessfully and using your position simply to make as much money for yourself by dishonest means. The expenses fiddlers and those who work as paid consultants to promote the interests of vested interests, not to mention the liars such as Onasanya need to be removed. There is also a large body of MPs who nobody ever hears about because they do not speak and very often do not attend the sittings. About time that was looked into.

There's "an inherent tension", as you describe it because I feel completely let down and betrayed by the ruling class.
I can separate the two paragraphs.

I know there will be exceptions, but I believe the vast majority are as I've described, inept or both.
I won't desist from stating my opinion of them because there are extremist nutters about.

Inept, making bad choices etc I don't have an issue with really. In many cases I'd agree! It's the 'self serving' / 'traitor' element - where we are questioning motives - I have more doubts about.

Point I'm (probably unclearly) making is that it's not the type of lifestyle/career that is all roses and there are some very serious downsides, and that while many may be inept, most are well intentioned - even the ones one vehemently disagrees with.

Perhaps one we won't agree on however. Suspect I'm in a very small minority on this one!
