Loads of places in London, and probably elsewhere, don’t take cash now. It’s nothing new and makes a lot of sense.
Out of interest, what places, aside from public transport?

Coffee shops primarily and other high volume low transaction value places like that.
Nothing worse than being stuck behind someone, usually female, who spends two minutes trying to count out the correct change. Reduces the chances of fraud, reduces the chances of staff being assaulted and there are general costs for any business that has to carry cash. It wouldn’t be right for every business but I can see why it works for certain places.

Most of the transactions in my business are cashless these days. I've got a card reader called iZettle that works off mobile signal, so don't even need to plug into a network either.
And what is it with women taking ages to find their purses and cards etc ? They've had generations of shopping experience behind them, yet always seem to wait until they are asked to pay, and then spend ages rummaging through bags to try and find their purse, which then has a hundred different compartments, in one of which contains the bank card they need.
Blokes just have their card in their hand ready.

Question lads and not having a pop at Spurs fans, I see their new ground is cashless, now i'm sure they will have checked the legal aspect of this but i thought it was illegal to not accept cash in certain situations.
I assume the new ground must have a restuarant of sorts, and in UK law restuarants are not allowed to refuse legal tender. In a tendering agreement between seller and buyer, yes they can refuse cash, but a restuarant bill is classed as a debt.
The reason the topic caught my eye was because Visa got done some while back for encouraging companies to not accept cash from their paying customers, basically the card companies wish to turn us into a cashless society which only benefits the banks not the consumer.
An older story on the above topic; https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/4015...to-refuse-to-take-notes-and-coins-as-payment/
Also banks have started to reduce ATM's, however, this has already been highlighted as affecting the less well off in our society. It's claimed a cashless society would affect 8 million UK residents.

There is an argument that cashless society may benefit the less well off because you only pay for what you spend. You can only withdraw notes obviously at cashpoints and this provides a predisposition to spend it even you needed less. I do think though that cash should be accepted everywhere, what am I going to do with all my fake scottish £20 notes!
The stadium better look good for £900m. Architecturally it looks the business, but there’s no denying, even from the most excited spud with his hardon in his little paw, that it’s a gargantuan **** stain on the club’s history right now, due to the fact that Levy made a colossal **** up and delivered it a year late... and overshot the budget by almost double.
yeah ok thats 2 posts already where youve felt the need to make that point
Dont let it bother you

And yet it isn't completed. They still need to finish the trophy cabinet... no rush.

You boys are pretty ****ing desperate this morning
Anyway, my bad. New stadium means more to you lot than trophies, so as you were.

Just been having a look at the pics of the new WHL on the BBC Sport site ... fair play to Spurs, it's quite stunning and as someone who did Architecture as part of A Level Art (many years ago now), I am happy to concede that l, for me, it eclipses The Emirates, Antfield and Old Triffid in terms of structural impressiveness ..
... obviously it doesn't guarantee success on the pitch .... but what a venue to play in![]()

How did you work that one out?
