When you think that the main media channels in Oz are owned by rabid right-wingers, it is no surprise that their thinking has been influenced to be pro-Brexit. What other electorate would put up with the ultra-Conservatism of the awful "Liberal" party for so long?
What we desperately need right across the globe is for progressive forces to unite to defeat the forces fo destructive Conservatism. The only aceptable Conservative face is Germany's Christian Democrats and the CS in Bavaria. Beyond that, and it gradually becomes repulsive.
my confirmation e-mail came through this morning 3,100,780. (although I live in Serbia i still pay my National Insurance voluntarily!)
Interestingly, I failed to vote in the referendum because it was made so hard. I had to apply (by post) to my local Electoral Registration Office (which I assumed was where I lived before I went to Serbia) never got a reply, couldn't vote. Multiply that by everyone else abroad who failed to register (and would have voted remain) and UK voted Leave! To quote the orange man "Electoral Fraud!!! FAKE RESULT!!!" btw the confirmation email has a link to register to vote on-line. I'll give that a go now, ready for the next referendum
done. (it asked if I wanted a postal vote or vote by proxy (they'd send a form) so I went for come back to UK to vote - only way to be sure I voted!)
Interestingly, and with perfect timing, they are at this very moment debating the 3rd reading of the Overseas Electors Bill in the HoC, which is designed to remove some of the anomalies from the existing rules.
I signed one that only had 100k signatures, whoops wrong one Found the big one now, 3,238,000+ If it hits 17.2m will they respect the people's view
When I registered I had to give the postcode of the last address I was registered in England. Once that was done registration was completed and I have the postal vote option. IF there is another referendum I'm sure the overseas vote will be mobilised. That said I'm amazed there are EU living pensioners who have voted for a pay cut and loss of healthcare, un'kin'believable! Jij stomme eikels in colloquial Dutch. Fortunately we've worked for years in the Dutch system so we're covered by Dutch healthcare and pensions. Jab
Yeah, absolutely. My cousin is (sadly) a mega-Brexiteer, yet he runs a business employing (mainly British) crew for private yachts in the Med, plus he owns a place in France. I’ve tried asking him to explain what the benefits of Brexit are (like all the others he cannot - other than “taking back control”) and when I point out to him the (to me) obvious issues with not being in the EU which will majorly affect his life, he accuses me of “scaremongering”. I despair .......
I'm with you there. None of these people have been able to list any benefits financial, social or cultural. There will be tears.
yep, they asked me that. problem is I'm not sure I was registered to vote there. so when my application is refused i'll have to think of previous addresses. Nothing is easy!
So Blair didn’t divide then over Iraq? Didn’t tell lies, did apologise etc? Back further, the streets in 1979 were a mess, the dead weren’t getting buried, etc. Callaghan said ‘crisis, what crisis? Before then Wilson/Jenkins, tried to convince us that the pound in our pocket was not worth less after devaluation. Come on I’m not saying the Tories are devoid of blame at all, but they don’t have the monopoly of blame here! And the good thing is? There are millions of decent friendly folk on both sides of ‘the divide’ Let’s agree on that!!
