The level of knife crime among young people has reached such a level that it's getting near a national emergency. It's not just the actual stabbings, it's the youngsters who are drawn into carrying a knife for protection, thus making themselves potential murderers. Maybe I live a sheltered life, but I've never lived in this environment, neither have my kids. I assume the same is true of Not606 contributors, and it's also true of the politicians who decide policy on this matter. So I do feel they need to listen to the ones who come from this environment and have rejected the culture. There should be a cross-party approach as a matter of urgency.
In my opinion it’s a failure of a section of our society to encourage the role of the father in the home. Children - particularly teenage boys - need a father and role model in their lives. Otherwise they will look elsewhere for guidance (gangs). I have been lucky in life with my own sons but all parents will testify that it doesn’t happen by accident - you have to put the hard graft in with them for the first 18 years.

good times.
