One out of millions...and I wasn’t particularly looking at the retake, but I’ll bet somebody encroached on that too.
Like Piskie, I thought both were very debatable. The Kane pen, I’m just going by the law as I understand it. The amendment to the law says that the player has to make an attempt to challenge for the ball. If he is fouled before any challenge the foul is given. That’s as I understand it anyway.
We had the exact same situation with a penalty missed to equalise from being 4-0 down. The defender was almost in line with the kick taker. Refs have just given up on that rule for some reason.
Not read all the comments, how does a foul override the offside rule then? If you’re offside and fouled, does that mean you’re not offside anymore?
I successfully avoided the discussion yesterday as the draw was the best result for United and, ultimately, the conclusion will inevitably be that United were lucky.
Doesn't mean they aren't the rules. As a fan of the team who was having the penalty taken against them yesterday I agree with them being retaken for encroachment. Don't even penalise initially, but if the team don't score allow a retake. If the penalty ends up being taken five times then so be it. It's cheating no matter how many teams do it and it's easy to stamp out
The technology is there to apply hawkeye to Pens and encroachment. It should be a clear as a bell, as refs and lino's get this wrong so often.
As I've just mentioned. They should apply hawk eye/goal line technology to encroachment during pens. Obviously moving it to the 18yd line
It wouldn't interfere with the game in terms of delays as far as I can see. You could have the tech permanently installed along the 18yd line and use it for encroachment and for determining whether a foul was committed inside or outside the box.
Being in an offside position is not an offence. It becomes an offence when you challenge for the ball. Obviously the referee considered Kane was prevented challenging for the ball by the foul, so that is the first offence.
So if a ball is pinged over the top of a defence to somebody stood in the box, and that player is fouled before the ball gets to him, it’s a pen? Seems utterly ridiculous.
Yep. But not in any “wager kind of way,” Tel. I’m done with wagers. I just want to rinse Pix on our wager, and that’s me done.
If they wanted it to it would be easy to enforce. It's not a difficult or complicated one. The late penalty should have been taken yesterday, it's not the only one this season but I won't complain if/when my team get pulled up for it because they should be. I don't want refs to favour my team, I just want them to get it right.
Depends how convinced you are that he’s offside. If this decision had cost Spurs their first league title in 200 years you lot would be foaming.
