Our squad situation is in flux imo. Matip could well go too for example If i were writing the list today as klopp I'd Start with the long term names then start filling gaps. Gk: alisson. (no 2?, no 3?) RB: TAA, ? LB: robertson ? RCB; Gomez, Lovren LCB: VVD No 6: fabinho henderson No 8: Kieta, Ox No 8: windy ? ? Striker: Frimino Left forward Mane ? Right forward Salah, shaqiri. So... that clears says He's a Full back and CB issue, A number 8 issue, and lacks depth up front. That is something we all know. But this is what he has: Matip, Moreno, Lallana, Milner, Sturridge, Origi, Kids: woodburn camacho jones brewster ki wilson lewis So can klopp make a squad out of that... patently he has today. There is not a man or woman amongst us who would not like to see the back of those seniors listed... bar milner maybe. Can klopp make a squad? My view would be: a) RB/LB. This is an issue. We shouldn't move gomez again IMO. Ki is too youngm he could be no 2 RB in 2 years time but not today. Lewis I don't think is ready anyway. So... milner does solve an issue here. Klopp might well have to buy to replace moreno b) CB. I'd let matip go but again... here we are looking at ki and he might be a top RCB in 3 or 4 years time.. thats not next year. so do you let 3rd or 4th choice CB go (matip) and buy a 3rd or 4th choice CB? Its not an easy one. Jimmy would say sell both. Who would you get to come in is the question. Could you buy a RCB and force gomez wide and drop taa? c) no 8. Jone is 18 now, turned 18 at end of january. He's that no 8. what do you do? Can you make do with milner til he is ready OR do you buy? Its clear its a crucial gap in our squad. Need more goals and positivity in midfield. d) Depth up top. Brewster is now 18 and will turn 19 before he gets a kick of a ball this year (april) Can we take a risk onhis fitness? is he really all that or just a hot youth who's an unknown due to injury. Its clear sturrdige and origi have to go really. Do you buy one really good player who can play across the front like a werner or whoever? Do you bring in wilson and brewster? for me: LB CB would need to be a conversation with matip and see what he wants to do next year. No 8 is a must Buy a flexible forward with pace 3 buys with an eye on CB situation as well then i would be looking to bring jones and brewster in with a maybe on wilson.
Wouldn’t be moving Matip on. Yeah he’s not the best player in the world but as 3rd / 4th choice option, not many in the league better.
It makes sense if we've Ki and Jones coming up relatively decently and should be the guys i n2 years. I personally am at the point where i don't think wilsn is going to be up to it. I think he's going to find his level at lower midtbale prem and do great things on occasion. Woodbrun is a huge risk. We've not seen his development and its the clubs fault. Brewster.. no idea. he's got to be fit and player s I'd still by a forward (like werner who could play 2 positions) a midfielder (like fekir who will go forward) and a left full this summer. we might need a keeper too. Kelleher and grabara aint up to it.
Agree with all 3 of yours. Am still concerned at CB. We are a VvD injury away from a poor season at any time really. This is especially important if Gomez is earmarked as our stand in RB. We badly lack a playmaker in the middle. Someone who can pick out those passes but still put a shift in. Bit like hens teeth though these days. Milner is a must sign as covers so many positions imo. As for the forward. Werner is a shoe in here - I thought that his future would have been decided already - he can sign for a club now but looks like it’s going to be one of those ‘who’ll bid the highest’ sagas - which generally means we won’t get him.
Historically that would have been true. Historically though we've been terrible at corners, but that has changed recently. It depends who is after him. Financially we can't compete with the Manchester Clubs, Madrid, Barcelona, or PSG... Almost anyone else, we can compete financially with.
I keep seeing them plug the statistic that we're now good at attacking corners but I genuinely can't think of a goal we've scored direct from a corner this season. I know we've scored one or two headers directly from the corner kick but have they started counting second and third play goals in this stat?
I keep saying this. Our corners are a little better than last years but nothing like they used to be when Gerrard used to whip them in. We consistently hit the first man. Maybe it’s just my perception
Gerrard was terrible at them too, it was a 1:10 type ratio but when that one hit it was usually a beauty. Alonso could take a corner. Oxlade can too.
