From what I understand Glam, there can be as many contracts signed between clubs and players as they like, but they only come into effect when they are officially ratified by the football governance authorities - until then they are only "pending".

It's exactly the same when you see the caveats like "subject to international clearance" or "subject to medical examination" tacked on to contract announcements.

If he was registered with City then our insurers would be in line to meet any claim - if he wasn't then that means he was still a Nantes' player when he stepped on that plane and they would need to claim off their insurers.

There is no doubt the insurance companies are driving this one, not necessarily the football clubs themselves.

Regarding insurance, I think its around liability the problems arise. It appears city did have Sala insured, but some complications have been identified as to whether the policy could be annulled. Most of these complications lead back to the arranging of the flight.

'Any wrongdoing in regards to the flight could annul the Welsh club's reported £16million insurance policy for Sala and, if that wrongdoing was another party's responsibility, they may have to sue for compensation.'

The poor sod might not have trained or played a match but he was a Cardiff player who signed a contract.....It is a tragic what happened and maybe Cardiff should have taken better care of their player than they did, Special means of transport should have kicked in the minute he signed the contract protecting their investment....It was an error of judgement and an expensive one at that and a very sad one....

Depends on context Sparkey. I assume used as I have suggested "Cockwomble" then it means an obnoxious, bigoted fool. However, I assume, if you use it as "Cock Womble" then it would be an entirely different meaning and then certainly picking up something may well be involved, not sure it would be litter.

It's crazy that with all the money in football these days, this could have happened.

Sounds like things are going to go on for quite a while.
