Even if you’re someone who sympathises with her (I’m not), the simple fact is that allowing her back into the UK will carry the risk of her committing a terrorist attack, regardless of assessments, assurances and precautions that’d be made. I don’t want that risk.

Where does the law actually stand on this ? If she's committed a crime, then it's something like aiding and abetting terrorism. But if she's done that on foreign soil, then can she be charged with it under UK law ?

There is no evidence supporting the theory of child abuse or grooming at this stage. I'm not dismissing the possibility but no evidence has come to light in the 4 years since they left.

So what is the importance in this, well it was December 2014, that the three girls were interviewed after a friend of theirs (fourth girl) travelled to Syria. So if there was grooming, then surely the Academy with the loss of four pupils has to be brought into the spotlight, if indeed the earlier friend went to BGA. Although police were quick at highlighting at the time of their friends disappearance that there was NO evidence of radicalization.

However, the girl that now wants to return home, was in known contact with a Aqsa Mahmood before she left on that journey. The importance of Aqsa is that (fifth person) left for Syria in 2013 to marry an extremist. The teenager tweeted Mahmoon, two days before her own disappearance in early 2015, i believe eventually leaving on her sisters passport.

The main thing that seems to come to light in most of this is social media is being used as tool, depends how you want to link that into any so called grooming. Just in the small bubble of Shamima Begum alone, that is five young girls who felt the need at the time to leave the UK.

It should not go without note, that IS no longer control the swathes of land they once did back in 2014, they are now cornered down on the Iraqi border with limited time before they are completely wiped out. Shamima like many other people that travelled out to Syria, want to return home as they have been defeated on the battlefield. Again being callous i could say it's convenient to have a baby to support your cause on return.

 

I get it completely but I also recognise that she was a child who was exploited and think that even the smallest bit of intel should be extracted from her. That can’t be done if she’s in Syria or dead. I’m not saying bring her back and give her a penthouse flat in North London.

If (and that’s IF) she’s brought back she should go straight to prison.

The law says she can’t be made stateless as she’s not got dual nationality , so has to be allowed back into the U.K. if she arrives.

As I've said I'm with fan on this. I think it's a child protection issue, she was a 15 year old girl groomed into joining a group that was essentially about sexual exploitation. People are saying, she made the choice to do it, but you could say the same about the teenage girls that willingly turn up at old nonces houses to be passed around for sex.
