Having slept on it perhaps the first half wasn’t too bad and we had a lot more intent in the second even if the quality was sometimes lacking.
One thing I don’t get is playing Freeman right and BOS left. Surely that defeats the point of Smith being in the team.

I'm not sure I know where Smith fits in the team, and am not sure that Steeve does either. I do not think Steeve wants us to play route 1 football though, so does not really set up the team to do it.
However Matt Smith can be a complete Goal-scoring handful, especially against teams who are not much better than us, like last night.
This is why we score goals from so many set pieces when he is on the pitch.
Goal 2 yesterday was absolutely perfect. A pinpoint free kick from Freeman onto Smith's head and a bullet header into the net....It was exquisite and unstoppable.
Another thing, yesterday was quite a high tempo game. And Smith lasted 85 minutes of it.
Many people, me included, have been saying he is not really fit enough to last a match....he certainly did yesterday.
I accept that he can be nullified by a big strong CD, but when he is not, he is a match winner for us ( and also very good defensively at opposition corners too!!!!)

Horses for courses. Wells was really isolated in the first game even with Oteh.
There’s a role for Smith in certain games but not as the default Plan A. He could be an option again for Watford who, if I were to stereotype, probably don’t like it up ‘em on a cold rainy night in the Bush.
The way we used him last night on the front foot was good. He’s never an option when leading apart from as a lump to head balls away and he’s not an option when we realistically will be sitting deep away from home.
I wasn’t a popular chap as I drove out the Docks at Portsmouth last night at 10-00pm, wearing my QPR bobble hat, with my Flag and QPR mug in prominent display, PMSL might be awkward next time I’m down there !!!
can anybody download the highlights from last night smith is my faverete player i think if he had been brought on for the last half hour of every game we would have been higher up the table as especially as wells is the ideal player to run onto his flick ons i hope maclaren adopts this for the next five games in the league to see if matt smith can resurect his career at loftus road i know beth disagrees but football is all about opinion

They came pretty close with about 30 seconds to go but the cameraman was probably on the Westway by then.
I was daft enough to go to Wigan and when Smith was waiting to come on I barely recognised him as he has trimmed down somewhat. Played well last night but that was the game plan as Lummers barely played the ball out from the back if at all.
We made lots of changes at Newcastle in the 4th round so who knows - I would like to see us put out our strongest starting line up but you never know with foreign owners and managers - do they really value the cup as much as the fans do ? We haven't been to the 5th round for quite a while now, so I'm hoping that we consider it a big day for us as well.
I think it’s more these days that certain players will be promised minutes in the cups, particularly goalkeepers.
Re the use of Smith, according to the radio commentary the plan seemed to be for Bidwell and Furlong to hit long diagonal balls into the box early so that Smith and Wells could attack the area between penalty spot and 6 yard line especially as their keeper seemed somewhat hesitant coming for those sort of crosses........whether that will work against a Premier League defence is hard to tell but maybe worth a go if Watford decide to play a weakened side.

For the first goal, from where I sit it looked to me that the ball came to Lynch and he had a hard clumsy time getting it from under his feet to have a half shot at goal.
The highlights however show something very different, the ball comes to him awkwardly and bouncing and he has a hard job getting his large long body round to have a shot on goal, which by some art of contortion he does actually manage. The ball is shot at the goal and on target. The goalie is there and I suspect he would have saved it if Wells hadn't been there in front to just flick it under him. Lynch made that goal, I fully apologise to Joel Lynch for what I said last night.
