All eyes on the cup


WATFORD await the winners of tonight’s 4th Round FA Cup draw as QPR host League One side Portsmouth.

The two teams could not be separated 10 days ago at Fratton Park meaning there’s all to play for in this evening’s replay for a place in the 5th Round of the world’s most famous cup competition.

Portsmouth are no longer the league leaders in League One following a poor run of form that has seen them lose three of their last four league games.

Kenny Jackett’s side have dropped down to 3rd place with Luton and Barnsley leapfrogging them in the table and need to quickly rediscover the form they showed before the turn of the year.

To help their cause they have recruited two new forwards during the January transfer market with James Vaughan and Omar Bogle joining on loan from Wigan and Cardiff respectively. The latter has already found the net on two occasions but is ineligible for tonight’s match.

The last time Pompey visited Loftus Road was just over eight years ago when goals from Adel Taarabt and Clint Hill secured a victory for Neil Warnock’s side.

But Portsmouth have a great pedigree in this competition, having beaten Cardiff in the final 11 years ago and also crowned winners back in 1939.

Sorry if this has been discussed on another thread and I missed it, but can anyone explain why we recalled Wheeler from Pompey the week before our tie with them, only to send him to MK Dons almost immediately?

To get the insider info on Pompey? Because he wasn't getting enough starts ( not good enough) for Pompey, but may get more starts ( be good enough) for League 2 top 6 MK? Perhaps though I doubt it, it's better for the Club financially for him to be at MK? Optimistically, forward planning for when we are in League 2?

I wondered if it was a spying game thing.
 
I wonder what team McClaren will put out today? I would not be surprised to see a couple of changes.

If Hall is fit he could return to the defence or the defensive midfield role.
I would not be surprised to see BOS start.
Another option is Cousins. Is right back and option for him to allow Furlong to move into the central defencer role?
Manning would have been a great option to play - but he is at MK Dons!

I don't have time to ponder on this and to write it up, but look forward to seeing any ideas if posted.

Wheeler is at MK Dons, not Manning - so Manning could start

Oh lucky me I will actually be in Portsmouth at the docks sorting some Airbus trailers out at 21-15, so depending on result might be a good idea to remove QPR flag and my QPR mug from windscreen !!!!
But agree strongest possible side required.

Strongest team, strongest squad.???? You all realise weve only got 18 in squad without Cameron, hemed and rangel so just a matter of who starts or benched?!!

Unless he puts it another youngster but wont be one who has got anywhere near the first team before

Thing this is the strongest we have available now in the current formation if Hall is fit enough. I'd like to have Hall's hight and technical ability to support our dodgy back 5, with Smith's help at dead balls against. Team has been looking too short without Cameron. Pawel and Freeman to supply the crosses for Smith and Wells playing off him. BOS to come on if we need more pace.

It is an option. But I would prefer to play BOS instead of Smith in a 4-2-3-1 formation and bring Smith on as a plan B, or as a sub.

I am slightly concerned with Leistner and Lynch playing central defence again. I feel they need a rest fron each other. I would like to see Furlong play there, but then we need a right back.

Despite Jamie Mackie not being in the shop at all our overall turnover to date must be well up on last year
