What to do.

Understandably, football discussion on this forum is non existent this past couple of days as a result of the terrible tragedy that's befallen Emeliano Sala and his family. The only thread that's been active is the one concerning it and quite rightly so.

I don't want to appear insensitive, but would like to sound opinion as to whether with just a week or so to go, we should now go with what we've got as a squad and forget new arrivals, or re-enter the market?

Given the tragedy, should we leave the striker situation as it is and look at midfield and/or right back, or should we just back off altogether?

I don't know what the financial position is. He is our player and we have contracted to pay Nantes £15m. In one amount or stages I don't know. I assume we will have insured him and hope this was from the day he signed.

His death and the cause thereof will have to be determined and a death certificate issued and probably a post mortem. Where that leaves financially I haven't got a clue.

I guess we have more money in the pot as we have been looking at other players but probably not enough to fund another big buy. That being the case I think it unlikely we will buy another striker. Hope Ken, Niasse. Ward and Healey can find some form.

This makes it more urgent for us to get in a right back and midfielder. Who? Answers on here please.

Been wrestling with myself about posting this, but as you say Bluey, nothing stops in this world.

It's a difficult one to call for sure. At any time, to lose a player is a huge hit. To lose someone before you've actually got him and with a short window to sort something as a replacement is nothing short of ghoulish. At the same time of mourning and supporting the families, someone has to look after the club's interests. who knows if insurance will pay up and when....even allowing that insurance coves such things. And someone needs to see if the cashflow can cover, in the meantime, the purchase of another player.
And I guess like me, many couldn't' give a flying fig about what happens now. everything is too raw.
I wonder if the FA have any rules/freedom that cover this that gives the club a chance to mourn and then find a replacement?

I think we should back off all together and as a club support the family of Emiliano Sala.

Transfer window is irrelevant to me as is the rest of this season. A 28 year old lad has lost his life travelling to play for our club.

At the moment i couldn't care about results relegation or what league we are in. Im not knocking others who feel differently but for me i really dont want to see the club pursuing targets.

Lets support the Sala family and pay respects and just see this season out.

Just my opinion.

It is a strange feeling though on a number of levels, but as you say, the world keeps turning.
It's strange in one way as we'd never seen him play for us, but given the protracted nature of the deal we had long enough to find out about him. I can see how Nantes would mourn his passing more than us, but for however short a period, he was a bluebird and we should pay respect.
On a footballing level, there is the feeling of having been robbed, not financially but emotionally. The build up to the signing, will he, won't he, the unveiling and the thought that we may have a gem to fire us to survival, only to be snatched away. Insignificant compared to the loss of a life, but a feeling none the less.
On a more practical level, what happens next. As you say, do we just ride it out, look at the next on the list? Focus on a midfielder? Who knows.
A challenge ahead for Colin, Choo and Dalman no doubt. If they don't feel up to another round of chasing a player, I won't hold it against them

The practicalities over money and signings will sort themselves out in the fullness of time but shouldn't be a priority.

I think all the above are valid feelings without being insensitive, provided we keep them in the right order and with the correct perspective.

I genuinely feel for the family. We've all lost loved ones but in my case, always with a certainty as to what happened and a body to grieve over.
The reality is, his remains may never be found. I don't know how his family in Argentina deal with that.

Football just didnt seem relevant for us when Vichai passed. We didnt feel like a football club for sometime. We was a family which is what Cardiff is atm. The football world was behind us and you lot was amazing to us in our first game afterwards

We are all praying for a miracle but the fears grow bigger all the time and its the not knowing for sure that makes it harder

In time you will get back to football and play for Sala like we did for Vichai every week. Its a difficult time where there is no wrong or right thing to do.

Our players arrived at training everyday but didnt train. They needed to be together as a team. I hope your team rally around and after what you did for us I wanted you to stay up. Now I want you to even more

This for me as well. My heart isn't into the actual football side of things now. Stay up, go down...whatever. The club will be fine either way. This season just become a bit of a side note to me.

It will be business as usual albeit in a very sad and sombre time. The transfer dealings will continue behind the scenes. As some have already said, football does take a back seat and quite rightly thoughts are with and for the families of the missing.

There is a meme going around that says something along the lines of ‘The job ad for your replacement is posted before your obituary.’ That stands for most professions but not the entertainment industry or high profile people.

I am still hoping for a positive outcome even though the tragedy has shocked me and logic says to expct the worst.

Until they come out and say they have found bodies, I am holding hope for the both of them!

I'm the same. I doubt I'll even bother caring about the Arsenal game and only go to the Bournemouth game to pay my respects as a fan. Football isn't even bothering me at the moment. What a **** week!

We're completely out of the loop as far as the next movements from City are concerned in all directions. All we can hope for is respect.

I agree Aber. In the greater scheme of things, you can't stand still too long. People live and people die.

I guess, however, what was highlighted to me is that CCFC will be fine (in fact, better than fine) if they stay up or go down. No point spending time worrying about a club that, in reality, doesn't care about me, or spending time being surrounded by moaning and groaning because of a football result. Sala's tragedy, and I sincerely hope the end came quickly for the lad, reminded me of that.
