Only if you were looking at historical performances . They spent like 250m or whatever it is in the past year to plug up their weakenesses.

It wouldn’t. Liverpool have given notice of a serious challenge. In fact I believe they are still odds on, having led over the Christmas period and into the New Year.

Personally, my money is now on City to close the gap. Spurs are live outsiders, just about; but it will be a shock if they win it from here.

Well 21 games in, you are top of the league, having been undefeated for the first 20 games. And have probably the first or second best first XI in the league.
To me, thats challenging.

You don't agree that you are serious title contenders?

I dont really remember where they were 21 games in if I am honest, but if they were top of the league, then yes, they challenged, at least up until that point.

It is a little hard to define, because sometimes it is just a feeling. Arsenal didnt have a great team at the time, and their position was mostly down to the failing of City, United and Chelsea, who, especially in Chelsea's case, were shockingly ****e that season.
Not once did I feel that Arsenal had the minerals that season to go on a winning streak till seasons end and bring home the silver, of course no one had that feeling about Leicester either, and they did it, but thats why their title win was so miraculous.

Why would that upset him?
Surely to be in with a shot at the title, especially having spent a fraction of the resources as City and Pool have, is a good thing.
They are only dark horses because they are neither a) a historically big club in terms of winning league titles, at least not in recent decades and b) Aren't laden with an inexhaustible stream of cash with which to buy quality players.
To be up there, on what they have spent, is a great achievement. Of course it is an achievement that no one (bar some Spurs fans) will remember, unless they actually win something, but it's great nonetheless.

yeah, definitely, to bottle it from that position and lose out to Leicester, of all teams, is definitely a bottle job.

I’m sorry, I thought I made that clear; they have been top of the table over Christmas, and remain so going into the new year. That’s a pretty clear message to the rest of the league imo; more so than, say, slipping briefly into second while their fans sing “we’re coming for you” to the leaders.

I noticed you didn’t answer my (genuine) question earlier. When was the last time Spurs were top of the league, and for how long did they stay there?

If you can answer that, you may begin to understand why Liverpool are now considering genuine title contenders while Spurs are, at best, dark horses (whatever the **** that actually means).

Though you are right that both have won **** all recently.
