Blimey, it looks like the deduction's the least of their worries.

"Staff costs for last season jumped by nearly £18million to an eye-popping £37.989million, which when compared to a turnover of £18.778million gives an insane wage to turnover ratio of 202%.

To put that into lay man terms, for every £1 the club generated last season it spent £2.02 in staff costs."

"... after spending spiralled under Harry Redknap"

News on repeat

Thing is, the manager isn’t in charge of the finances. If the owner says you can spend this, you can bet the manager is going to spend it. Particularly these old school Redknapp, Bruce, Fat Sam, Hughes types who demand an obscene amount of money to spend before even thinking about accepting the job. Owners should tell the useless ****s to feck off.

True to a certain extent, but Redknapps's often don't seem to be value - some of the contracts at Portsmouth were supposed to be crazy.

Bruce's signings, for instance, recouped on and off the pitch in the main.

Who is he held in high esteem by?
He's a bit of a media favourite !!
Certainly not me ..!!
I remember going to the 2 v .2 game 1st season in Prem .. I was talking to Pompey fans in the Harbour pub.
They where shaking their heads at the money he slung about .

I suspect the fa/efl, whomever makes the call, will not be kind when they lay down the law here. 15 points deduction for sure, which won't relegate them you'd think, but longer term with a couple of transfer embargoes and an horrendous wage bill they could be proper ****ed

But is it the managers job to draw up the contracts? I don’t think so, or it shouldn’t be. He should turn up at the chairman’s door with a list of players and say get me these.

I think the manager’s role in these things will vary from club to club/ persona to persona.

But, from available info, Redknapp’s signings often have a habit of being paid somewhat over the odds.

Couple of examples (from the many):

John Utaka at Pompey under Redknapp at an apparent 80k p/w, 4 yr deal (in 2007 too) and Redknapp's signing of Samba, for 100k p/w (5 year deal) at QPR in 2012.

I would imagine that Redknapp does not make sign-off on these decisions, but well may use his influence to ensure these deals/contracts happen at said values.
