Shamelessly nicked from the prem board but what are the top 5 players who have ever lived in your opinion and who are your favourite 5 players?

And just to keep it a bit more interesting lets try and keep the saints players to a minimum in your list just because we all know that we've had the best players ever to grace the world and Lallana and co are gods walking at the moment! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Top 5 In no order and not containing players I didn't see much of. And doubtless I'll of forgotten really obvious ones.

Ronaldinho
Messi
Ronaldo (fat version)
Drogba
Cannavaro

5 Favourite (no saints)

Adam Johnson
Gareth Bale (he doesn't count!)
John Terry (discounting personal life)
Leighton Baines
Ronaldinho

Im interested to hear your respective top 5s!

Matthew Le Tissier ( Shilton if MLT doesn't count) (if Shilton doesn't count, then Roberto Carlos)
Pele
Maradona
Messi
Cruyff

5 Favourite:

Lallana (non saint - Zola)
Matt Le Tiss (non saint - Cafu)
Arjen Robben
Steven Gerrard
Hulk

Messi
Pele
Zico
Henry
Barry venison (because of the mullet)

Five fave

Henry
Matt le tissier

Ian wright
Xavi

Guys I know Le tiss and Lallana are both very talented and we all love them very much but they are VERY predictable on a saints bored and its almost a given before you even start typing a list that they'd both turn up, so can we please refrain from putting them in!

Tar :)

Best (from reputation and video) in order....Cruyff, Maradona, Zidane, Pele, Di Stefano

Favourites .....Le God, Lallana, Messi, Rui Costa, Gazza (controversial, but before his injury he was nearly unplayable)

Favourites without Matty and Adam....Messi, Rui Costa, Gazza, Zidane, Bale

Top 5 ever

Pele
Maradona
Best - yes he's from NI too, but also known as one of the best in the world in his prime :)
Cantona
Dino Zoff

Iniesta
Javi Martinez or Iker Muniain (or any Bilbao player)
Wesley Sneijder
Messi - don't have to be a fanboy to know his skill is a joy to behold
van der Sar

Best all-round player: Pele

but...

Best Goalscorer: Gerd Muller
Best Midfielder:That Bloody Cheat Maradona
Best Winger: Johan Cruyff
Best Defender: Bobby Moore
Best Goalkeeper: Gordon Banks

So why is Pele the best..? Because a team full of Peles would wipe the floor against a team full of Gerd Mullers, a team full of Maradonas [Ok, they'd put up a fight], a team full of Cruyffs [so would they], a team full of... well you get the idea by now.

Best - Pele, Maradona, Best, Cruyff and Moore (The obvious)

Favourites - Joe Hart, David Villa, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Petr Cech - Have a soft spot for Chelsea players for some reason ;)

Here's a little story, talking about Chelsea. When I was 12 I wanted a Saints kit to run around in when I played informal games of football, with mates, in the park. But they didn't really sell replica kit in those days, so my Mum asked me who else I'd like if she couldn't get it [actually it was because of the sheer hassle of making a striped kit]. My new hero at the time was Peter Osgood [I loved it when he signed for Saints later], because he'd scored such a great equaliser for Chelsea against Leeds Utd in the 1970 FA Cup replay. So, for my birthday, she MADE a Chelsea kit from that era. But because she couldn't reliably stitch a number 9 on the back of the shirt, without pulls, or on the shorts [older supporters will know Chelsea used to have numbers on their shorts too - one of the first teams to do so] she ended up stitching me the number 11, because that was obviously easier. I didn't mind, as the Chelsea number 11 at the time was Scottish winger Charlie Cooke, and a very good player in his own right.

The late summer came and we went off to Italy for the family holiday. I ended up bored to tears because we never did anything except visit relatives from a bygone era. So I ended up playing football with the local kids of my age in the park. I'd brought my Addidas Santiago boots along and my Chelsea kit, because I was football potty. Everyday, the kids would bang on the hotel door shouting, Ey, Chaarlee Coooka, cum mon en pley footebal..! I'd leave the hotel sometime early in the morning and arrive back late in the evening.

That's a brilliant story man! Unfortunately the rep button seems to have done a runner, but rest assured i liked it. <ok> :)

I'm gonna have to do my best list based off videos and from talking to older relatives -

Best - Pele, Maradona, Garrincha, Best, Edwards (such a shame)

So many I had to miss out there.

Best currently - Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Rooney, Ibrahimovic (guarantee there'll be at least one person here who thinks he's a bad player for whatever reason, feel free to present reasons why because that's always a fun discussion)

Favourites (excluding Saints) - Johan Elmander, Fabrice Muamba, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Keisuke Honda (can you tell I like attacking midfielders?)
