As I remember, there was **** all else to do back then on a Saturday afternoon. My 6 year old granddaughter asked why were all the films and pictures grey? From the mouths of babes.
Seen a few old photos this week on FB Hull the good old days, biddies queuing for littlewoods to open in 1955 and one of biddies clutching their handbags just like Cissie & Ada off Les Dawson sat amongst the pigeon **** around the ****ty Fletchers fountain with noisy traffic roaring past on Jameson Street and bonkers old people on FB posting 'happy days', 'town was much better in the good old days' etc. What now looks like an austere post-war dystopia is still seen as utopia by crazy old people.

I still my son and stepson (22 and 21 respectively) that life really was black and white with shades in between. Well that's how I remember it.

Those sort of inadequates hadn't been invented back then. Just had a look, the attendance for that game was 46,282. That season saw the largest crowd City had played in front of before the play off final, 66,889 at Tottenham. Other away crowds included 40,254 at Cardiff, 52,403 at Wednesday, 49,465 at Leeds.
We had 50,103 for the Wednesday home game, but crowds yo yoed up and down even back then as the home game before the Wednesday one was 37,895. The only games where the crowd would have fitted in the KC were the QPR one, 24,586 and the Cardiff one, the final game of the season.18,213.9 of the games had crowds of over 40,000.
Really old ones because colour hadn't been invented and then because colour photos and films were expensive. Though that doesn't stop a lot of the old black and white films being better than a lot of the mindless modern colour ones. Or England's World Cup win which was broadcast in black and white being inferior to recent defeats in glorious colour.
Still **** all to do in Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Buenos Aires and elsewhere going by their crowds.
I've missed this

She is six, I hope you told her why and didn't laugh at her. I didn't learn about basic cinematography until I was about 10.

Of course I did, I was watching an old WW2 film, she asked that question and, "Who are we fighting?"
I answered, " The Germans." She then asked, " Why is your best friend ( Roland ) a German and you are still friends with him?"
Which entailed some more explaining.

You are correct, I have 6 gorgeous Grandchildren, they never never fail to amaze me with their insight and then questions.
I know that you are a School Teacher and come into contact with such things every day. My wife was also A school teacher for over 30 years until her retirement, she had some wonderful tales.
Keep up your good work.

Just watching Andrew Marr's Sleuths, Spies and Sorcerers (BBC 4) and, when he gets to Len Deighton, Marr is reading a period newspaper. A prominent article has the heading "Franklin can go say Hul City". Where will it all end?

Well spotted :emoticon-0148-yes: When City signed him ('51), he was the most expensive defender in the world to that point.
Interesting article in link below.
