A thread to discuss all your favourite drinks and where to find them. So what beers do you like, where is it good to drink them, is the pub any good and does it do good food? I'll start off with good pubs in and around Shrewsbury: (in no particular order) Admiral Benbow Coach and Horses Wheatsheaf - High street Wheatsheaf - Frankwell Three Fishes Loggerheads Salopian Armoury Anchor Abbey Hotel Prince of Wales Belle Vue Tavern Woodman Outside of Shrewsbury George and Dragon, Much Wenlock The Ragleth, Little Stretton Bridges, Ratlinghope Stiperstones Inn Church Inn, Ludlow Kangaroo Inn, Aston on Clun Three Tuns, Bishops Castle Six Bells, Bishops Castle Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle Riverside Inn, Cound Stanton Arms, Stanton upon Hine Heath Railway Inn, Yorton New Inn, Baschurch Romping Cat, Old Woods Royal Hill, Edgerley Tilley Raven, Nr Wem Burlton Inn, Burlton Any more pubs I've missed out and I'll add them to this list! As a suggestion post any good pubs around the country and frinedly ones at away matches on here too.
Whenever I'm out for a few we frequent the Salopian Bar, The Admiral Benbow, Coach & 'Orses, Wheatsheaf High St, Three Fishes, Cromwells (& a few more no doubt). I can be found at the Beer Festival in Frankwell this weekend! Cheers..
I haven't been in Cromwells for years, does it do good ale now? BTW the Lion and Pheasant, albeit slightly modern in style, does quite good local ales changing regularly.
if near leominster try the englands gate at bodenham, dorothy goodbody's etc. if near whitchurch dap across the border to aston near wrenbury, the bhurtpore, 8 beers 2 ciders, good food but expensive. also bridgnorth and kidder stations for bathams etc er floreat salopia
Oops I forgot to add Bridgnorth and Ironbridge pubs to the list. The Bhurtpore Arms at Wrenbury is a great pub.
has anyone been in the corbet arms upton magna or the hare and hounds withington, if so any good please. there is a nice pub at corfton nr craven arms on the munslow road that has its own brewery, also the white lion at ash near whitchurch has good ales and used to be in the good beer guide. sadly as far as shropshire is concerned in recent years the camra good beer guide has only been as useful as a chocolate fire guard. let us hope for better things this october when the 2012 guide is published
the bhurtpore at wrenbury can be visited by train, the same train that stops at yorton, for the railway inn. bhurtpore, railway inn, diddly dum, diddly dee, ah let the train take the strain
well done salopian, does liz stock it from time to time at the railway inn. oh thank goodness for a gas free zone, why i bothered to stoke them up in june i will never know. hopefully this subject will be above c-g, as he is still mastering gripe water
Recently went in the newly reopened and renamed Bridges at Ratlinghope. Three Tuns beer in good order and nice food at a pricey yet justifiable price. Heard the last owner was 400k in debt and didn't like walkers, wrong place to own a pub!
Went to Red Castle in Harmer Hill for lunch today. Very popular with oaps as does good value two course meal for £6! four beers on offer all in good condition. On today Hobsons Best and Mild, Sharps Doombar and Hancocks HB. Much better place to go than that Bridgewater Arms if you don't expect flashy chain pub stuff
Was served a pint of Domestos at the New Inn, Hadnall earlier this year (I exaggerate only slightly). New tenant in this weekend so fingers crossed it's fit for human visitors again.
Are you of a north-of-shrewsbury location then Shrewd? the New Inn should be a cracking pub and hopefully the new landlord will make it so.
Certainly am Matster, close enough to be guided by the light atop of Grinshill. The New Inn was a good post-match stop off but it's been declining for a while and the mouthful of bleach killed all known germs and my enthusiasm. Will give it a tentative try under the new regime.
The Tilley Raven reopened last year and does a range of local ales and some good food. Book early if you want a table on as sunday though.
