Why on earth would Redwood lose your vote? He's one of the most ardent Brexiteers, and has been for an extremely long time! More general point (not directed to Ellers), it does amuse me that many leave voters are up in arms about this 'not being what they voted for.' Hate to break it to you, but when you voted to leave the European Union but, as promised by Vote.Leave, to maintain access to the single market and not have a hard border in Ireland, this is *exactly what you voted for*. And you were warned. That leave voters didn't have the capability to forsee that, through ignorance of willful self-deciet, is no one's problem but their own. Plenty pointed out at the time that they were being sold a fantasy. Having made their bed, time for them to lie in it. Enjoy owning this complete and utter mess.
Perhaps, but I don't really care and I'm confident what I wrote is true. The company I work for has pulled the trigger this week on moving a high number of roles out of the UK and the moaning from leavers today, who are unquestionably responsible for this mess, has pushed me over the edge. I have no sympathy for any of them wailing about not getting the fictional Brexit land that anyone with an ounce of common sense knew could never exist.
Our trade with the EU has been dropping for some time it used to be 53% now it's 40 and falling. They are only looking after themselves. Has nothing to do with Brexit as a few of my mates worked at a local company and they moved it to Germany/France and made loads redundent. That was long before Brexit. France and Germany are looking after themselves. This country has never been part of the Euro dream. No one calls themselves European here other than the fanatics. Brexit will be blamed for everything now and some will believe it.
Having been involved in the decision making process at my company, I can tell you it had everything to do with Brexit, as in a highly regulated industry, our regulatory roles will legally have to be in Europe. We're also moving our manufacturing to Europe for some products for similar reasons.
I cannot comment on individual companies that I don't know, however the overall picture is correct that trade with the EU has continued to fall. Germany and France are working as a team and looking after themselves first. Anyway tomorrow is another day and hopefully we may see some better news for all.
It has fallen as a % of overall trade, yes, but slowly and still our biggest trading partner by some margin. Why we would want to take steps to further limit that trade is beyond me. And considering 80% of our economy is based on services, which today's deal doesn't particularly support, it will certainly be shrinking further and faster! Oh well, yes, hopefully better news tomorrow. Sorry to be so grumpy.
This is just another nail in the coffin for UK politics. Regardless of party preference, we as a country fall for the constant drivel from our supposed leaders on a daily basis. Brexit was doomed as soon as the result of the referendum was announced. Such a narrow divide was always going to be problematic. Mis-information, lies and a total lack of transparency influenced the voters in one way or another. 'The I knew what I was voting for' line has never been more ironic as it is now! Yes yes you voted to leave or stay blah blah blah, wanted your own laws ( on what exactly), wanted Britain to be great again (hasn't been for a long long time), wanted to stay part of a bigger club ( but pay through the roof ) etc etc. This potential deal was never an option, it will leave us in a worse position than before we started all this farcical nonsense. Leave never meant leave and remain never meant remain! We have been conned by our own politicians and now is no better time than to come together, put differences aside and change the future of our comedy of UK politicians. We should be tackling the homeless situation, people relying on food banks, poverty, crime, corporate tax evasion, huge bonuses for the extremely wealthy etc. We have so many problems in this country (stabbings on a daily basis) yet we deal with none. That's how we would make Britain great again! Not by wasting 2 ****ing years debating over a mis sold referendum.
The only realistic solution is to **** the whole thing off and risk the wave of gammony hate that would follow. That is something I’m sure we can all agree on.
Significant that May supporters in the Cabinet (and May herself) are now talking about 3 options - May's deal, no deal, or no Brexit. Matt Hancock on the radio this morning trying to convince people that May's deal is the best of those choices. Plainly it's not.
It doesn’t help when you have the opinion that France and Germany are running the EU and using that just for themselves I am sick of the culture that has developed in the UK we are a nation of moaners that lives to blame someone else always. We are a people that cannot take responsibility anymore and all of us are so self obsessed we cannot look at anything larger than our own lives In the case of politics it’s just about careers These people like the public sector and the NHS work for us you know that when you take the job

Must admit I've stayed away from this thread and Brexit for some time now for reasons of sanity. However seeing the PM on the news this morning it's the first time she's ever even mentioned No Brexit. Almost like she's angling towards another vote, or maybe that's reading too much into it. Surely any Tory backbencher voting for this deal is putting either themselves or their party ahead of the country.
I think it's just May's thinly masked threat to the hard Brexiteers - which is better, deal or no Brexit. She's doing the same to the remainers in the government - trying to make it seem like this deal is not the worst option for everyone.
