Bollocks.

Leeds is in the shadow of MCR, Sheffield is in the shadow of Leeds and we are stuck 60 miles away from both of these, with a 19th century railway service and a two lane A road to connect us to the rest of the company.

Leeds and Sheffield both have local populations of at least one mill, central locations, and decent transport links. We will never attract people in big numbers when they can see same artistes in West or South Yorkshire.

Idea of the day: move 'Leeds' airport from Yeadon to yon side of Goole near M18 and M1 links.

Surely a win for Leeds and Hull?

A 19th century train station and an A road to connect us to the rest of the UK.... And people say we aren't lightyears behind.

Till these are fixed we can't compete with Liverpool, MCR, Leeds,Sheffield and Newcastle.

Still waiting for the Castle St fix. If only we'd had someone fighting our corner in 10 like a Deputy Prime Minister.

What's that you say? The Freedom Centre?

A grateful city is forever appreciative !

Obviously just my opinion, but I spend alot of my working week in cities like Manchester, Liverpool,Leeds,Newcastle,Edinburgh and Sheffield etc and all these cities are vibrant, modern, lots of construction/new things happening and have a really great feel about them. Hull on the other hand just always seems to be standing still at best.
Maybe the City will have a different vibe when all the Castle Street works, bridge over to the Marine etc are completed. But I agree totally with you HT. The cities you mention are unfortunately light years ahead of us, (maybe not Newcastle) Leeds is becoming unrecognisable to the city off 10 years ago. Still, it's Hull and it's home. 'We know what we are'...

I am a big fan of Hull but the transport links are dire. I've not lived there for a little while but last time I came that hadn't changed and it won't for a long time.

However, comparing Hull with Manchester (and Leeds) is a ridiculous comparison, there is very little in common between them. Manchester and the wider area are huge and have had billions of private money and government pumped into it. I am sure if Hull had that it would be a much better place. I am not denying that Manchester is better than Hull in so many ways, it clearly is, but it's going to be due to the ridiculous amount of investment.

It’s not the buildings or the infrastructure or the investment or the local Councillors or the transport links or the sport teams or the size of it’s Concert Hall that make a City stand out above the others.

The people make the City & because of that Hull is head & shoulders above most. The people are the reason the City exceeded all expections in regards to last year’s CofC celebrations. It outshone the efforts of all previous Cities & raised the bar so high that those following will fail to reach the expectations set.

The people. Power to the people.

Having seemingly started off with a dig at Geraghty for holding Hull back, it now seems you're one of the people with the mindset of wanting to remind everyone as often as possible how much better everywhere else is. It's people with this mindset that threaten to hold us back. Luckily the people behind City of Culture and other developments don't let you.

The people are fine - witnessed by many surprised people in CoC year.

Communications are ****. Motorway ends before it reaches the city; Castle Street/Myton Bridge are choke-points, because of all the docks traffic; no ring road to the north (or south cos of the river); no rail link through to KG and QE docks.

Vision? It's been pretty badly let down by an awful, un-inspiring HCC.

It's strange how Castro goes missing and Howdentiger takes over his mantle :cheesy:

What the **** are you on about? How the hell does this have anything in the slightest at all to do with allam? Or where have I put any mention or support of them? Your obsession is getting laughable

Yes me wanting us to be ambitious and aim to be as good as other cities and hopefully one day see out potential is me holding us back.... We could say the absolute refusal of people like you to be honest and open to things and take your blinkers off is the reason we are holding back! Be a no more of a stupid comment then yours or that bellend kempton
