I use a Callaway driver, hit it straight and I get to about 300 yards. I've only just started playing again after years away and found I have a tendency to slice right...like many other amateurs. I've adjusted the angle at which the club head lines up against the ball...more square on...and I don't slice as much. I bought a second hand set of Ping irons 4 to SW. They do make a difference from your cheap clubs. Might hit 50 balls at the range later.

This new one is adjustable so I have to see what's best.
 
I bought one of these bad boys not too long ago, which is ridiculous considering my lack of action. I've spent a ****ing fortune of late on this and fishing gear. If the missus knew I think she'd suggest I'm somewhat selfish. I tell you what, this fecker adds quite a few yards on to your driving. My Taylormade Burner was about 15 year old though, so I dare say technology has moved on a bit!

Aye pretty straight. I'm not fully adapted to it. I loved the burner hence the long time between change. It was a draw burner. I found I hit incredibly straight with a nice hint of draw. This thing can be set up how you like (haven't got that far yet). I left it as is and found I was hitting straight but when I went after it I was getting a slight fade/slice. I hit pretty long though so even a slight fade can be a ball ache on narrow courses. I'll probably tinker with it a little just to put a slight draw emphasis on it. You can adjust everything - the loft degree etc. Like Mick says you need a degree in engineering!

Does it come with instructions? <whistle> Has anyone ever seen how far they can hit with a putter? I was reminded recently that I hit it over 100 yards off the tee with one once. Can't remember though! Ps that was with a run up <laugh>

It's not the wanting to win part...well it's not all the wanting to win part which makes it unsociable, it's the walking across the fairway from one side to the other following where that fluke gust of wind took it off line.

Years back I played a midweek round and went round in a rather decent 73. The best I'd managed for ages. The next day my then next door neighbour, who was a golfing addict, had gone for a round and had come back boasting that he'd just gone round in 79 which was his best of the season so far. My wife who he had been talking to and who didn't like him and who wanted to take him down a peg or two then informed him of my previous day's score and suggested we should play a round together.

For the rest of that Summer I had to duck and dive and avoid him to make sure we didn't play that game, it was Hell.

What I hadn't told my wife was that my round of 73 had been at Backworth Golf Course and for those that know Backworth is a 9 hole course not an 18 hole course.

I'm staying at a hotel in darkest County Durham tonight, spa, drinks and dinner tonight. Back home in the morning and a round of golf at twelve. Stuff work. Enjoy life while you can <ok>
