Chronicle + Super Timmy Krul said:
TIM KRUL has delivered a shop-floor view of Newcastle United’s intentions for the season ahead by insisting: “This is our chance to establish ourselves.”

United fans have questioned why there has been a lack of proven Premier League quality signed this season. But Krul feels the current squad have no choice but to battle on for the black-and-white cause and get on with the job.

The Dutch keeper has contested former midfielder Joey Barton’s theory that he and Cheick Tiote will be sold in the next window, and indicated he wanted to stay at Newcastle “for a long time”.

United face Barton and Queens Park Rangers a week on Monday looking to resume their excellent start to the Premier League campaign.

However, speaking on the prospect of Newcastle’s young guns growing up together at St James’ Park, Krul told the Chronicle: “This is the way the club wants to go now.

“At the moment this team is showing we can move forward.

“That has to be the most important thing. We have a lot of young players here and a lot of young talent, we could be here for a long time.”

The transfer window resulted in exits for Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan and Jose Enrique which – like Andy Carroll’s departure in January – lay uncomfortably with United supporters.

Speaking on his own future, Krul said: “I am 23 and I want to stay here for a long time.

“The manager keeps saying we have to perform week in, week out. That is the only thing I can do and that we can do as players.”

Krul has been outstanding in the opening four matches of the season and produced man-of-the- match displays against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup and Fulham in the Premier League.

The Hague-born stopper says he has no problem with hard work after producing some world-class saves.

He added: “I am happy with the amount of work I have to do – it was more like a training session at Scunthorpe with the amount I stood up to! It was great.” Krul is ready for his next challenge of facing Barton and co, with the Scouser determined to notch against his old club at Loftus Road on what will be his home debut.

He said: “Touch wood, he did not score too often!

“The next game is Queens Park Rangers, another game in which we can pick up points. We know what Joey is capable of but this is a game we can pick up points in.”

Some nice little quotes from Krul about his faith in the young lads and how he wants to stay for a long long time. I know we've heard it all before, with Barton, Carroll, Nolan etc etc but glad to see, at the minute, that Krul's heart is still in it and his intention is very much to stick with us!

Love the guy. I hope he's our keeper for years and years to come, I really do. He's brilliant and I can see him just getting better and better.

Also like the "he did not score too often" comment about Barton ;)

I've loved Krul ever since he played against Palermo aged 17. Always knew he would be a top keeper and glad to see him number one.

I also agree that these young lads will come good - we have some top young players

This! I remember that game, he was insane even saved a penalty didn't he. I love Krul and his Dutch/Geordie hybrid accent

Class mate. I just hope his national manager doesn't tell him he gota move to one of the massive clubs like Man Utd etc. and also hope Ashley doesn't accept bids. Should be not for sale at any price

Unlike the others, I can see him staying here. He's been here for years as it is and is clearly settled. He's like an adopted Geordie.

Bit harsh on Barton lads. Lets not turn this into a Barton thread and lets marvel over the wonder that is Timothy Michael Krul! The Dutch man with the most un-Dutch first names ever!

Reckon he might do a Harper, stick with us! Except he'll probably have the number 1 spot for longer.

He's going to worth 20 million within 2 seasons if he keeps it up. Ashley will be rubbing his hands together again, the lad has it all and seems a role model to boot.

Same. He's already class and he's got better years to come. It will be a proud moment for him when he gets the No.1 shirt for us I reckon. Can't see Rob Elliot staying for long though.

To be honest if we end up with someone better than him then we're doing very well indeed

Haha, definitely. Krul as back up keeper, how good could things get? <whistle>

Me neither. If he's crap why the hell did we buy him, but if he's as decent as people are making it what's the hell he doing on the bench? He's not gonna unsettle Super Tim Krul!

In NufcTV he says that he hopes to be here for years and be up there with the likes of Given and Harper

You never know, but probably wouldn't have thought it

Think he was brought in because of the inevitable sale of Forster tbh, but they have both been good at League 1 level so it is quite baffling.

If he proves to be good then fair play to the lad. But as it stands, he has some way to go to budge Krul from between the sticks.

One of my favorite players, has been for a long time, always rated him and knew he'd turn out to be decent, think he could become better than Given in time!
