I know .I've always said there are some quality players in the lower leagues who we should be looking at and they wouldn't cost a fortune like Johnny foreigners .even if it didn't work out for them most of the time we would get our money back and more and it saves wasting money on players who need time to settle in a new country.

The problem is that, a lot of the time, they cost way more than an established first-teamer would, case in point Fulham were demanding £25m+ for Ryan Sessegnon two years ago, and we bought Moura for less than that.

It's a weird situation where the best way to sign young English talent is hope they get promoted to the Premier League and get relegated after a season to activate their relegation release clause, as happened with Trippier or Harry Maguire

A good scout can spot a player before he gets established or bought by a bigger team ,sure some players may be a gamble but if you act on impulse as a scout 7 out of ten you get the right result and that ends up cheaper in the long run.

I’ve already called Ollie Watkins to be a future star since the start of last season, before he proved himself at Brentford, he killed it at Exeter and it was clear to see he could play much higher up. Could probably be got for less than £20m at the moment.

Because we're only linked with one of their defenders and midfielders, naturally the Express has taken five minutes out of trying to brainwash the public that Britait is going swimmingly and everything is okay and link us with David Neres - who would be a good addition if not for the following issues...

In a bit of obvious spitballing, HITC have said that due to our lack of HG goalkeepers we should make a bit for Brentford goalkeeper Daniel Bentley. Apart from our current glut of goalkeepers as it is (Whiteman, Austin, De Bie, Glover and Freeman are all currently listed as U23 GKs right now, and that's bloody ridiculous) there's also painful memories of the last time we had an ex-Arsenal player named D. Bentley on the books...

He simply wouldn't start ahead of Eriksen or Alli as an attacking midfielder, he's played less games as a central midfielder in his career than Verts has (yes, I looked that up), while on the right he'd be behind Lucas and Moura, which means the likely place he'd start would be on the left...as Son's understudy

Saw him a lot at Southend - compared him to a young Joe Hart. Whether that's good or not... He's a solid goalkeeper but not sure he's the sweeper that Spurs play with. From what I saw of him, he was more of the traditional type. Still very good keeper though.

I'm sure that we scouted him a few years ago when he was at Sarfend.
Does seem like something of a waste to have three non-homegrown keepers.

It can only make sense if there are release clauses in it. Staying in the Championship isn't doing him any favours and the comment about an England call up show that he knows it. If Villa don't get promotion this season, he has to leave. I'm not sure that staying at a club that would probably be struggling in the PL does him too many favours either.

His previous contract was running down, which put him in a strong longer term position and would decrease his value next summer. If I was him, I'd only be signing a new deal that guaranteed a departure at a limited and fixed price next summer. Villa weren't selling him this season, so, as long as the price is sensible, he's only losing this season, which he's going to anyway.

We may even have given a non-binding commitment to take him at that price, should the release clause(s) be triggered? If we have, it won't be for a penny piece above the £25 million we had allegedly agreed with Villa and most probably less, knowing Mr Levy.

This hasn't been picked up by anyone else but despite my dislike for him, Jack Pitt-Brooke is quite up on Spurs and this is likely to be accurate. I hope so, with Christian Eriksen in his penultimate year and Toby Alderweireld still unresolved, another big name signed up would be good news.

The Times is suggesting that Jack Grealish's release clause is set @ £45m.......................

Forty five million....................really?

I hope for Jack's sake, either that isn't true or it's a very short contract. Arsenal can buy half a team for £5m less than that.


Addendum: It's a 5 year contract ............but post-Brexit, the UK will enter a period of stagflation that means that £45m in today's money will be worth £1.75 in 2020. So, no biggy after all. Unfortunately, it will mean that Jack can no longer afford to eat but.........................really, who cares?

I hope that you are right, I get paid in USD, I will be be on footballers wages if the pound crashes that far. I will be able to pay off my Mortgage on a Months salary.

My understanding is that at least one of the following held :

1. Citeh feared the Pochettino effect, and therefore would not sell to Spurs

2. Citeh had 'wage poiaoned' the kid, and he thought he deserved such
wages at Spurs

I doubt it's the wages, as he's on £22k p/w at Dortmund, more to do with The Sheikh Mansour Team suddenly developing an interest in reducing their net spend on transfers and asking a ridiculous fee.
