Ok that's fine but we all know Suarez would have helped us improve and at the end of the day Levy was willing to go up to 18 mill but not a penny more...so it all worked up to that point for all concerned.
Good point. We dodged a bullet too with KDB. We made 27m on a player we didn't want who didn't fit into the managers plans
Problem with the Suarez deal at the time is just like all strikers in the eredivisie it’s so hit and miss. Afonso Alves, Mateja Kezman and Vinny J all had similar/ better goal stats and ratios than Suárez when they were in Holland. So while it’s easy to say “we missed an opportunity” with Suárez, we took up an opportunity by signing a striker who statistically was just as credible as Suárez but ended up being a major flop.
It's also worth remembering that Levy continually backed Redknapp in the transfer market during his time in charge - and this being Harry Redknapp this meant a continuous churn of players, fees and wages for the duration because we could always get a couple more players in...and then found ourselves trying to ship them out again for two seasons after he decided he wanted a couple of other players to bring in instead. He wasn't an elbow-happy defensive midfielder, so of course he wouldn't!
And whose girlfriend your keeper shagged. Courtois really did **** you over in a bunch of ways, didn't he?
not really. Accordingly, we did well even getting a fee for KDB than wasting our money paying his wages
The following players will all be free agents at the end of the season David De Gea Anthony Martial Ander Herrera Luke Shaw Juan Mata Andreas Pereira Antonio Valencia Ashley Young Chris Smalling Phil Jones Matteo Darmian I see a potential Levying for the ages...
Don’t Utd have the option to extend most of those? I don’t like him as a person but Ander Herrera would suit Spurs
Looks like Valencia, Darmian, de Gea and Martial have contract extension options, but not the rest. I agree about Herrera, despite him being an enormous ****bag. I don't understand why he's not an automatic choice there. Rumours about him joining Bilbao in the summer, which is where he's from.
Mata’s the only one that really appeals to me. Great player and great pro. Would provide great competition for Eriksen as well as the wide attacking mids. Maybe Herrera but that’s just more on the basis our CM options aren’t great.
A report in Marca states that Spurs have the fifth most loyal players out of all the top European clubs, and the most loyal in the Premier League https://www.marca.com/en/football/real-madrid/2018/10/09/5bbcbff4268e3e925d8b4628.html Remember this when we hear the usual drivel about us being a "selling club" next May...
Not sure how much loyalty it takes to stay at a club that pays the most money and wins loads of trophies. Bournemouth is quite surprising, though they generally seem to do well as a unit, rather than having outstanding individuals.
And (until the Sugga Daddy FCs) could impose stupid "release clauses" that nobody could afford to test the "loyalty" . If CIES did a 'loyalty disruptability' index, no doubt Spurs would be near zero (much to Perez irritation) .
This is the part that always gets me: why haven't players such as Isco handed in a transfer request to negate the release clause entirely? It's all well and good saying you play for Los Ladrones do Madrid, but if you're not actually playing games for them on a regular basis it's as valuable to a player such as Jack Rodwell referring to himself as an ex-Sheikh Mansour Team player.
Ndombele Watch Oh ****, here we go again... The Mirror are reporting that we're planning a £55m January swoop for him, even though just a couple of days ago The Sheikh Mansour Team were being quoted a £70m fee (albeit by The Star) I get the feeling an offer of £55m + N'Koudou won't cut the moutard
Does anyone know if Jack Grealish has a girlfriend? Because with the announcement of Villa's new AssMan, he might have the sudden urge to hand in a transfer request...
