That’s true Piskie, They better be careful, Or otherwise some of their players will leave next summer.
Especially if they continue to win **** all. They cannot expect to keep their best players, whilst servicing the stadium debt and improved contracts when they cannot offer their players any chance of winning trophies.
You'll claim some kind of victory for every player we sell that you rate but the fact is...everyone sells players of varying qualities...I don't know how you would deal with the situation but for me...if a player wants to leave and there is no budge....then you sell. You say it's about the money always yet we would have got more if we sold Modric to the Chavs and we would have got the biggest return on Toby this summer gone...yet we didn't sell him and risk losing him for a lot less..not like the Levy you are trying to portray. See...I think he's done great for us...but like with managers and their ambitions...for me...chairmen have a ceiling on their ambitions too. Levy is reaching his...he's built us up massively as a business. Now if the business gains income for us to spend like the big boys...then he's lived up to the grand scheme in his head...if not...he's not delivered...therefore needs to sell up...but not now...however right now...all eyes on him.
Tbf, Spurs aren’t really a selling club; Saints, sadly, are a selling club. But they won’t to the next level without buying proven talent; and that costs
Yeah that's the point I’m making. Every club sells players. This idea that Levy has some kind of magic touch in the transfer market is a fantasy. You might not have sold Modric to Chelsea but he still got sold, along with Carrick, Berbatov, Bale, etc. I'm not saying Spurs are a special case here, but if any big club comes sniffing for your best players, then it's always hard to keep them. As for Toby, apparently NO bids came in for him this summer. So I don't think that was any mastermind move by Levy either. I agree though that he's taken you as far as he can. And I also think that with him at the helm you will face a decade like we did trying to pay for the stadium whilst keeping your squad together. From your perspective, you really need somebody with some balls to come in and invest, because Levy will just coast because his main concern is making money for Uncle Joe Lewis.
I've got a bet with HIAG that, unless they win a pot, then Kane will be off next summer. Could be a few others too. I think their players will give it this season in a new stadium (if they ever get round to opening it) and see if they can push for any trophies. But come the end of the season, if they are potless once again, then the exodus could begin.
Think you've lost already, mate. If you'd have said Alli/ Eriksen/ Vertonghen you may have had a case but Kane won't leave next summer. Even if he wanted out, I can't see anyone paying the sum we'd ask. Signed a 6 year deal a few months back and baring in mind how important he is to us not only as a player but also as the face of the club, Levy will be asking for silly money that'd make Bale's fee look like chump change.
With regards to Levy, it's been a long process but bit by bit we've improved under his stewardship. I don't think he's taken us as far as he can, there's still lots more he can do but I do have a feeling that he/ ENIC may be open to some added investment from outside parties to help aid the cause, no inside knowledge but I have a sneaky feeling Steve Nash is going to look at doing so at some point.
