Not simple as that. I think some people like to get into others faces then complain that they are being spoken about

Give you an example I was annoyed with sayeeda warsi wearing asian shalwar kameez when she got elected to a ministerial post. Yes I agree that people should wear what they want in principle but was that what she did? No imo

The whole gay marriage thing had a specific agenda from a couple of pressure groups and likes of thatchel. It's this that was being objected to (not portrayed this way in media) rather than the church simply being all uppity about it

What was the agenda? That gay people should be treated like non-gay people?
Don't like gay marriage? Don't get gay married. It has absolutely no effect on you or me, does it?

The agenda was to pressure religious institutions to marry gay folk or face prosecution. This is why it took a while to pass the law. The older civil partnerships thing covered all that marriage did

Thatchel and co had the idea of fighting ofr marriage and then literally walking into a church, mosque, synagogue and demanding they perform the ceremony or they were committing a crime. They had even filed some things before hand in the echr

The issue about not being treated like non gay people had been addressed, along with non married hetro couple being treated as non married couples

As usual it was not the religious who made it an issue. It was literally forced upon them and they responded

My own view is you make a life choice go with it. But it doesn't need to be in my face. That applies equally to hetro and gay. If I walk outside and see either going at it all tongues and **** then yeah I think "get a room you ****s"

Civil partnerships were and still are explicitly different.
Any attempt to force religious institutions to marry people that they didn't want to was never going to pass.
The religious made it an issue by having the gays banned, imprisoned and killed. It goes back a bit further than gay marriage.
