He scores goals, wel, every time I’ve seen him play for you he has.m

Messi is Barca’s all time too goalscorer. Ffs!

Son is not a striker. We may have inadvertently found a back up in Moura.

No, because he’s stupid. And what did he do while on the bench? **** all, why? Because Diego Costa is a boss and a world class striker to the point where Batshuayi didn’t get a look in - just like Llorente and Janssen with us.

So hang on, you’re saying Messi is Suarez’s back up?

all of them 3 play as the WF in a much as Son does.

I'm with @Dier Hard here boys.

All 3 can play CF like Son and they are probably as effective as each other (although son more effective than those 3 with mourinho in charge)

That’s like us saying we have Son, Moura and Alli. None of them are an out and out striker like Lukaku/ Kane.

Who needs back up when you have Messi, is the point.

Batshuayi sat there for the money. Just as many other top quality players do at clubs that pay top money. Once again, we don’t pay that kind of money.

It's hard to get proper backup for strikers, but it's not impossible.
Using versatile players is one way to do it. Bringing in a journeyman is another.

Our issue is picking a player with a very different skill set to Kane and then playing the same way.
Llorente thrives on early crosses into the box and set-piece deliveries. We did neither last season.
If we're not going to change, then we'd be better off with Son, Moura or Lamela up there.

I think that's also the Brazilian lifestyle, to be fair. Cultural common ground. <ok>

And we have Son - and Moura now it seems... Which is why we don’t need an out and out back up to Kane. Just like Barca don’t need an out and out back up for Suarez. They’re obviously league’s above us in quality but the consistency in the point remains - world class strikers don’t have backups.

Batshuayi also ended up leaving on loan due to lack of game time. Which is exactly what Janssen done with us. Backup strikers don’t want to be backup strikers. Both likely joined their respective clubs because they thought they’d play, when they realised they were out of their depth against Costa and Kane respecitvely, they seeked an exit.

Who are these many other top quality bench players you seem to be dreaming of? <laugh>

Son and Moura > Messi, yeah right. <laugh>

Hardly the point. Batshuayi joined Chelsea, reportedly over us, for....er...money! And immediately sat on their bench as back up.

Willian spends a good amount of time on the Chav bench. Utd have several top class players on their bench, as do City.

Point 1 - Messi isn't a backup, he's a starter, whos the replacement for Suarez?

Point 2 - Batshuayi is average. He's hardly a "Top quality" backup. I think that's DH point. He's not better than shoving Son or Moura in there.

Point 3 - Willian float between starter/rotation. He's good but he's probably roughly at the same level (form permitting as players fluctate) between Son/Moura depending who are probably first team/backups depending on how Poch starts his side.

Look back to where I said that if you have Messi you don’t need back up.

That’s your opinion. He was still rated as a very decent striker and was happy to sit on your bench.

Willian is quality, imo. Many clubs would gladly take him off your hands.

    1. Same argument then, what happens if Messi gets injured? wheres his world class backup?

    2. So rated no one is trying to buy him and the last 2 managers would rather play morata (<laugh>) and lukaku. Tbh he has no chance against king rylan. He's at Valencia right now sitting on the bench. As said before, Son and Moura are just AS good as backups

    3. He is quality. Likewise i'm sure many clubs would take moura and son off your hands who are just as quality as Willian which sort of negates your argument for buying big to get quality backups.

its a serious step up from his previous record of (not) delivering an end result to make his pace/trickery worthwhile.
