We had a poll earlier where we asked if signing nobody would be better than signing Carlton Cole. Turns out we reckoned it was and Bendtner is more of the same
Now i dont think Bendtner is as good as he thinks he is, but there isnt many strikers that play for Arsenal that score tons of goals (Van Persie is the only one), Look at Chamakh, complete flop but we were after him last season, may have been so much different if he had come to us. You just never know, Most from both clubs were raving about Ba before he went to you (i wasnt one of them though) he has had 2 games and been ****e, and most Newcastle fans are not impressed to say the least. last season we brought in Welbeck, 1st 8-9 games most were saying get him out of the team and get Gyan in, why play a youngster for SAF when we have our own 13 million player, then all of a sudden he just took off, and those same supporters said we cant drop him and to go and buy him. Football is a funny old game, lets give him time and see how he does.
Well it's preferable to not signing anyone, but I seem to recall the main argument for signing Bendtner was "he's better than Shola and Lovenkrands", which could apply to literally any other striker in the world. He could do a job for your lot though if Bruce uses him properly .
That's fair enough mate, I was just shocked that Ninja seem's to think that signing no-one would be better than Bendtner.
That's the difference between them though; BigGeordieDave is a proper fan whereas WrestlingTroll is proper divot.
There couldnt have been any real chance of Newcastle landing him as he was having a medical at Fulham. It reaks of Ashley making it look like he was going to spend £10 million plus but in reality he knew all along they wouldnt get him but it may keep the fans off his back for a bit longer as they thought he was actually trying for players. It was similar with N'zogbia last January, £10 & 12 million bids but with 15 mins to go, again it showed that they we willing to spend but again in reality, no chance the deal would have been done. Hes taking you guys for a ride Geordies!
Bendtner has scored champions league hatrick, not bad pedigree (He's scored a few against the mags too. His talent is undoubted its just wenger couldn't fit him.into his system. When he did start wenger would have him.wide right which isn't doing the lad any favours. I've seen Arsenal umpteen times where they had completely ran out of idea and realised they couldn't walk the ball into the net, brought Bendtner off the bench and he's won them the game.
His recent tallies - 2007-8 - Apps 27 goals 5 2008-9 - Apps 31 goals 8 2009-10 - Apps 23 goals 6 2010-11 - Apps 17 goals 2 98 apps - 21 goals He's got a worse goals to games average as Shola Still, i reckon he has potential.
Those stats are just for the league and the majority of those appearances are from the bench and a good few are the odd 10 minutes at the end of a game so his stats are a lot better than they appear there. His goals tally for in his 4 years at Arsenal actually reads 9, 15, 12, 9 and the season before he broke into the Arsenal set up he got 13 for Birmingham and 9 assists in a season.
What would worry me about Bendtner is that he's been fed by a team with some of the best players in Europe, yet he still couldn't score very many. Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere and so on. Now if you can't bag goals with players like that giving you support, then when CAN you score? I know a lot of his Arsenal appearances were subs, and he'll get more starts and game time at SAFC, but considering that he's lost the support of top, top players like that, I think those two elements will cancel each other out, and he probably won't score many more than he normally does. He could be a 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 striker. And we can't exactly say it's a confidence thing. The guy thinks he's a god. If he gets SOME goals and assists though, then it's better than nothing. I just wonder where he's going to be played. Can't really have Sessegnon behind the striker anymore (arguably his most lethal position) if it's Gyan and Bendtner.
From the Lets be realistic thread, he hasnt been giving much of a chance has he.
