It seems like one of those interesting asides you get on courses. I agree that being aware of bias (and I like that I now know a large number of forms) is about the best you can hope for.

Most of my opinions are formed instinctively, which will effectively be my flawed mix of subconscious historical bias (that will encapsulate several of the ones on your list) and a bit of rapid rationale (which is highly subjective and usually emotive). From there it is possible to change my view but harder than it should be if rationale were the only factor.

Troll? I suggest you get a life and meet some real victims of trolling. If you can't understand that your reply to Stroller's original post on an open forum (not a private message) and therefore intended to be read by all justifies a response in the same public way then go back to kindergarten. As an alternative show me Stroller's original post in which he said that the majority of Brexit voters were racist. If you duck that again people will draw their own conclusions. it would be far simpler to admit simply that you exaggerated and got it wrong. If you don't like this because you feel I am bullying you go ahead and report me to the mods.

What is your problem mate ?
I quoted what I thought/still think was a generalisation and I stick to it.
If you don’t agree then that really ain’t my problem. So do I have to quote it again or can you look it up from the last time I quoted it ?
It involved saying a lot of racists/Xenophobes being over 60....to that I disagree whether you like it or not.......do we REALLY have to go on ? I’m not ducking anything as I’ve repeated on many occasions what I felt was a generalisation it’s just a shame you can’t see that.

And for your info, my life is just fine....in fact I’m absolutely loving it at the moment....I hope you are too.

PS. If I have inferred that Stroller thinks the majority of Brexit voters are racist then I apologise....but I’ve looked back and can’t see that...please show me where I did and I’ll apologise to him personally.

Liam Fox is blaming the EU for their intransigence in being the reason we're getting closer and closer to economic disaster for ordinary people through the mechanism of "just f**king leave".

One of my acquaintances has called that being like a little boy who threw a brick through a window blaming the house for not moving out of the way. Still, I'm sure "the usual suspects" (tm, Ellers) will explain why I'm wrong and the EU is the devil incarnate.

It takes more than just 4 hours to negotiate a deal. maybe someone should have tried harder.

Agree what has the EU done exactly?

It’s the U.K. that needs to leave because of the will of the people

The Brexiteers cling to a nationists viewpoint and imo moan a lot more than remainers

Remainer’s life is simple stay in and give our younger generations a chance

Brexiteers are the ones who brought this about get on with and re build the U.K.

From a protest vote without any substance of hard facts there will always be protest

Comments about how the EU will collapse shouldn’t concern any of them imo

Yet to hear a valid point on here that contains any facts it is just protest stuff

    Just leave Yes
Then get on with the rebuild

Of course if it goes tits up then expect to be hunted down and whipped

Guys it is football season now. I don't have time for this EU crap and propaganda. Fox is correct and I have been saying it all along. You cannot deal with the Mafia of the EU. Let's keep the money and walk away from this crap organisation. All the EU is doing is dividing our country.

As you've apologised (sort of) I normally wouldn't bother but you have asked me directly to explain it to you. I thought I had already by referring to the post numbers but it seems you haven't worked it pout so no problem here goes.]. Have you seen anyone about your memory or does it kick in and out to suit?

Here is Stroller's post to which you responded. I'll highlight the relevant bits to make it simpler for you

    Stroller said
"True, a lot of the idiot racists and xenophobes are/were over 60. My Leave-voting mates are happy to admit that, whilst they themselves are not racist of course, a significant element of Leave voters were swayed by the racism of the Farage propaganda and the Project Fear stories of our being invaded by 70 million Turks. Anyone on here prepared to admit that?"

You clearly were not. Your response was:

    "Great generalisation Stroller.....what’s next ?
    Most Muslims are terrorists ?
Most blacks are drug dealers ?
Most Chelsea supporters are ****s ?

(Ok, I’ll give you the third one) ."

Can you see the difference between the two? If not, try opening your eyes.

    What an obnoxious post.
    and
"True, a lot of the idiot racists and xenophobes are/were over 60". What a generalisation of the voting public. Typically remoaner response.

Oh now I get it......so it’s my use of the word ‘Most’ instead of ‘ A lot’ ?

I take the point that my wording may of been incorrect BUT I still stand by my point that it was a generalisation in the first place.
Is that ok to you and your obvious higher intellect ?

Now can we go back to ignoring each other once again ?

PS There really wasn’t any need on your part to get personal, with the ‘get a life’, ‘kindergarten’, ‘memory’ and ‘opening your eyes’ comments...... you just make yourself look an arrogant, self important prick (oops, that me getting a bit personal now, though I did try my best not to).

    Have a wonderful day.......

Sadly I had to put someone on ignore as I found him to be a muppet (The first QPR fan which was sad but necessary). This debate can get heated and a while back I found myself being a muppet so I stopped posting on it for a bit and came back refreshed. It is sad that some of the things that are being said on both sides however I do find 'a lot' or is it 'most' or 'some' remain supporters to be pretentious and believe they are somehow on a higher level than everyone else when really they are no different. Anyone who believes in wonderful democracy and our constitution should accept the result, stop moaning and support their country rather than winging because it wasn't the result they wanted.

The problem is that Theresa May has been bidding against herself for months, giving ground constantly.

Barnier has been leaning against a lampost, filing his fingernails and yawning.

The EU are waiting for her to give ground again. They don't have to do anything - BUT they can overplay their passive role. They've done that before, and it resulted in Cameron's referendum in the UK. So the EU are perfectly capable of shooting themselves in the foot due to their renown arrogance and inflexibility.

The UK has to head for a managed WTO. If the EU wants to talk before that fine. But every time May goes cap in hand to one of the EU leaders, it weakens the UK hand.

I really think there's a prospect that the Tories will get shot of Theresa May in October - and then it'll probably be Boris that leads us (yes, frightening, but with a competent cabinet, he'd get Brexit done)

I'm not sure Varadkar is a whole lot better! I do think Boris is a definite possibility for PM. I think Tory MP's will, at this minute, be getting an ear bashing from their local party chairmen that Chequers is a sell out that pleases no one in the UK. Some MP's have only small majorities. They may come back to Parliament with a grudge against May, who has already caused many Tory MP's to lose their jobs by conducting an inept election campaign.

In a moment of strange, almost eerie, recollection earlier today I pinpointed the precise instant that I became a contrarian, way back in 1980.

This thread seems designed to keep me in practice. Being told to be quiet, not the question the majority, and to accept opinion after opinion presented falsely as fact is just food and drink, yummy.

What kind of wonderful democracy wants to silence a minority? Especially a minority of 48%? That doesn’t seem wise, surely it’ll end in tears.

Having a look at our constitution is a good idea. Oh dear there is no written document, just a collection of statutes, common law, parliamentary conventions and interpretations of these. The one thing these point to is the sovereignty of parliament, which can change the nebulous constitution by passing a new statute. Sovereignty of parliament note, not of the people in a referendum. I thought this was about the most coherent argument in support of Brexit, the the EU dilutes the sovereignty of parliament. But it seems that many who want this principle upheld and reinforced don’t want parliament to decide about Brexit. They want the dictatorship of the majority as defined by an x in a box on a single day instead. Odd.
