There's a reason for this: because we've seen what happens when we sign one of the best strikers in the world and put them in a system which doesn't come close to playing to their strengths.
Serhiy Rebrov was a genuine coup for us when we signed him, and he was several steps ahead of pretty much every single player we had in the squad - but the route one football George Graham had us playing completely nullified him. A decade later the same happened with Roberto Soldado, who was one of the most effective strikers in La Liga, but our system was set up in a way that would've been better for a Drogba-type striker and not an out-and-out poacher like Soldado, so his form nosedived almost as fast as his confidence.
Just because a striker is exceptional doesn;t mean they can be dropped into a system that's unsuited for them and be exceptional - Andriy Shevchenko's stint at Chelsea is proof of that.
Agreed. Shevchenko wasn't used correctly and was possibly on the way down after injury but the chelsea system (or shall we say mourinho) didn't help him.
I think Suarez has proved though that he has all the dirty tricks to win fouls/muscle defenders out the way even when its played long to him so even then i think he would have been okay in any system.
