Pickford set for a new contract at Everton apparently. Would be hilarious if he signed and Chelsea are left without a keeper to sign.

I don't believe all the rumours flying right now anyway.

We will see.

Pickford would be a fool not to cash in on his world cup, could be once in a career timing for him to get a really big club but then he is young.

Everton might give him Rooney salary

Chelsea have been quite odd lately.

Last year they spent 107mil net. So they are not poor

However they spent it on Barkley, giroud, drink water (68mil between them) and then in effect swapped matic for bakayoko.

They have suspended their stadium project.

The year prior they spent 50mil net and took in 52mil for oscar so in effect spent massively then too.

There's lots of money in Chelsea imo. But I question what they have been targeting

Their recent transfers have been more like are old ones, they have spent buts its been in dribs and drabs on middle of the road filler players.

They haven't made a 'statement' signing for some time.

Maybe they've looked at city and thought **** it I'm not competing with that every transfer.

Project; return to previous state

If he believes in himself (which he should) then he will stay put unless the right offer cones along.

From what I’ve heard on Chelsea, Roman is pulling the plug and has curbed the spending the massively hence the lack of statement signings. They weren’t ever really in for Alisson unless they were able to sell Courtois and Hazard - the same applies for the new signings.

They’ve had to be prudent over last couple of years hence the favourable net spend.

Going back to Pulisic - he is the golden boy for FSG.

No doubts that if this kid is on the market, we will be in for him. He is the key to the US market which FSG are desperate to crack.

From a marketing perspective, it’s a no brainier. But from a playing perspective,’I would still prefer someone like Dembele who is miles ahead.

Yes, he’d be a marketing dream but would he start?

As a good young lad, who should your agent advise you to go and play for to become a global superstar? It’s either Jurgen or Pep imo.

I think it will play a part, but you do get the feeling the gloss rubbed of his toy a while ago.

It was always going to be an issue for Chelsea, if he lost interest and withheld his money would they still be able to compete.
Feck all to do with politics imho
He has thrown his toys out the pram cause a bigger school kid arrved at Citeh.
Tbf to him he has looked after that club and it has been ran well for a while
Even though i dont agree with their ideals, they have been ran well as a business. Best move Roman made was taking that guy from Utd.
They will be a top club for a while yet though I think.

Not sure he threw his toys out with respect to our transfers.

He's consistently lowered his net spend recently before his visa fiasco. Mainly because he thinks we should be self sufficient hence our youth programmes.

His problem is lack of patience if that's the direct we wish to go.

Dropping the rebuilding of the egg slicer might be throwing a wobbly though

Saying that if we were building that for a billion quid, might as well have just bought Wembley for 650m. Cheaper built and much higher capacity

TBH you could be right but if we look over the period since 2010 and city arriving

Cheslea have won 2 titles, 3 FA cups, 1 League cup, 1 Uefa cup, 1 CL. (including sacking managers and now finishing twice outside the top 4)

City have won 3 titles, 1 fa cup, 3 league cups.

over the 8 years both clubs have dominated English football it is fair to say

If anything the managerial merry go round at cheslea has hurt their dominance.

what I detect is strange transfer activity that is very very mixed, constant managerial change and a question mark on long term investment (the stadium)

At this point who knows. Cheslea have a new manager and a very good team. But from now ti l end of this transfer window appears to be a crucial time for them.

Contrast to Utd

won 2 league titles, last one 5 years ago now. 1 FA cup (and sacked manager) 1 league cup, 1 europa league.

Last 8 years have been ok to utd but by their standards its been dropping off big time.

And yes forget wumming on this I'd kill for that record for us.

Theres are 5 trophies available to different clubs in england this year.

Europa - cheslea should be favourites for it right now. All those kids have a cup to play for!
CL - city should be trying to win it. Spurs nope. Utd nope. Us? 3rd seeds. will have to fight like dogs again unless draw is kind.

League cup - city and cheslea (and one for utd) in last 5 years. the big clubs clearly stretch their legs in this one. I would expect one of these to win it again
FA cup - for the big club with nothing left to play for.

the league - City's to lose after 100 points tally.

Goalkeeping Podcast
Alisson will join up with his Liverpool team-mates for the first time this week as the Reds jet off for a pre-season training camp in France.

With this in mind, we produced a special goalkeeping podcast here at the ECHO - and it’s one that’s close to my heart.

I played as a keeper for Everton’s academy (sorry, Reds) until I was 16 and trained under Graeme Classon, who now works as Macclesfield Town’s goalkeeping coach.

Graeme’s also a massive Liverpudlian, and regular host Paul Wheelock brought us back together to chat Alisson, Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and discuss a range of topics including confidence issues and the importance of being a number two.

I’m probably bias, but I reckon it’s the best podcast ever recorded in the history of the world.

Ever.

We could do something similar with what we did with Keita. Buy the lad with a loan extension for this year then intergrate him next season as we get rid of say Lallana.

Aren't we trying to build a strong squad, rather than just improve the first 11?
