Precisely. They.re gambling on buying their way back. We're gambling on building a squad from scratch.
Our current first team squad. Once you take out the injured and those who want to leave we'll be lucky to get a bare X1 against Sheffield Utd. It's time for Huw to cast his annual magic spell………….. https://www.swanseacity.com/teams/swansea-city
They are getting rid of dead weights and bringing in good quality at the level they are at, which seems to be a good way of doing things, I know whose fans would be the happier. We are a ****ing mess and have been for at least 3 or 4 seasons and on our way down unless we actually bring in some championship grafters and quality.
I know which one is more sustainable. It's served you well in the past. Took us 3 seasons to unravel our mess.
They might be the happier at the moment, but if they don't go up this season, they might not have a club to support in the next few seasons.
Mid table with a recognisable brand of football and a core of players wanting to play for the club would be a result. Get the big earners off your books then potter can do what he appears to be good at.
And that sir is what is about to happen,or I should say I believe the plan is. Forget promotion, this is about bringing stability back to the club.
We are a ****ing mess and I will take mid table, but it is great having players who want to be here, but they have to be actually good enough for the league they are in, We are in big trouble with the absolute mess of a squad we have, if we don't bring in something of the quality of the league we play in the we are ****ed. I am not asking to keep the big earners or to spend loads, what I am after is players capable of keeping us in this league. so get the brand back and have 19 year olds who are chuffed to be here, l2 here we come. you are assuming I want to keep all the high paid players and spend loads I am not, but surely we can off ;load and at least compete in the transfer market with average championship sides, which it doesn't look like we have any intention of doing as it stands. Havent seen you for years now all over this telling us how to run our club.
If there are not 4 worse teams than us in this league then we go down. But,I do not believe Potter has come to Swansea to have the word relegation written into his CV. Yes,we all want to see new talent come into the club, but financial sense and the future of the club must "always" come first.
, I am not on about spending big, we didn't spend big in the PL but we don't or wont have a squad by the start of the season, these kids will be ****ed come October having been bullied completely, surely we can compete with the likes of Ipswich and the like.
I am not singling you out on the spending front.I was talking in general.I apologise if my post came across that way. Your points are valid and I take them onboard.
My friend, I think you'll find a small group of us have been over here long term and have always tried to contribute in a reasonable and debating fashion. What you are now facing is what we have gone through and (luckily, due to good management and a supportive owner) come out the other side. As for finances, mentioned in your later post, one does not have to know the detail to know the pressures that come with relegation and a general view of the spends etc. soon lets one know which way a club is heading.
Profit and losses are posted so we know there wasn't a huge surplus in their finances. Any club that increases it's spending when taking a £40M drop in income won't remain financially viable for long. And there's another drop next year.
Until we know who's staying and who's coming in it's all conjecture The only one I see going for sure at the moment is A Ayew. and Bony will have to prove his fitness before he does So if J Ayew, Amat, Carroll, Clucas, Fer, Fernandez Mawson, Montero, Narsingh, Naughton , Olssen, Roberts and VDH all stay we will have a strong base to which we can add some youngsters whether new players or under 23's. With Asoro, James, Montero and Narsingh we will have pace out wide but I would like to see a midfield general and a forward to play alongside Mcburnie both experienced brought in. I don't see us getting promoted this season and in deed I don't want us to but hope that by the end of the season seeing a team that looks as if it can in the future. That's what a rebuild is all about. I would like to see players who have served us well but have no place in the future respectfully moved on. I want to see attractive, positive football and expect us to finish mid table.
So you don't know then and you are in fact assuming that will be the way. what we are facing is and should be nothing like you wnet through, you spent 1 season in the PL and probably took a chance on spending to survive and didn't, we have spent 7 seasons there and whilst I agree finances will be tight to suggest we cant compete financially with sides mid table in the Championship is absolutely ridiculous, we will have no big earners left once w have given everyone away, so after 7 years we are in a worse position than the likes of Ipswich and Birmingham. Cant see it somehow. I am not talking about spending massively, but re building with good quality Championship players and not a group of under19's. On a side note please don't call me my friend it comes across as very patronising.
