The ridiculous thing about City, is that in chasing a player and messing around, they likely make others aware (if they didnt already know) that someone's available and what the probable price will be, instead of going in with a price that sorts the deal quickly.
“We’ve had bids on the table and that’s come out publicly now,” said Adkins, speaking after City’s 1-0 defeat to Rochdale on Saturday. “There’s three players whose names are out there. The offers we’ve put in have been rejected so the club have got to be in positions whether they continue those negotiations or not. We’ll have to wait and see. “Things have been going on for a long time and it’s out publicly now. I don’t know what will happen next. “Who knows what’s going to happen. We need to strengthen. I’ve been perfectly up front and clear on that.” Skalak, a Czech Republic international, has been earmarked to provide another option out wide for City, while Adkins also wants a reunion with Norwood, a central midfielder he signed when manager of Reading in 2014. Norwood played and scored for Brighton in their 2-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon but the Seagulls would be willing to sell for the right price after he helped Fulham to promotion when on loan last season. “He’s a talented player but I’m not going to say any more than that,” Adkins added. “I don’t know who put it out there that we’ve put a bid in but it’s in the public domain. “We are actively looking to bring players in which is important. We’re trying to get that balance of 20 outfield players and the 10 under-23s to supplement the squad. “You can see that we’re still very short on numbers in the squad. It’s been a great opportunity for the youngsters but you need that competition for places because it’s going to be tough when injuries and suspensions come along.”
If we can’t match an offer of £1.5million for a decent championship midfielder then it is a poor show
It's bollocks I think. It's a bit of a community in football and everyone knows everyone and they all talk to each other. I think managers, scouts, agents know who's available and who's looking for what without the help of the press.
We're not in the premier league any more. Whilst it's becoming more normal for championship clubs to pay decent prices for players, it's only clubs being bankrolled by rich benefactors that are doing that, which we are obviously not. There's the parachute payments but I'd rather they hasten the vaccination of the virus than be spent on the squad and potentially leave it festering for years, wouldn't you?
Mitchell Waller (Hull City Fans Forum) - Down at training ground today, Jackson was there after coming back from the World Cup but no Kamil? Spoke to Nigel, most of the media reports are ‘untrue’ regarding players (Tom Bradshaw was the name I mentioned) but he said we “need more players”
You have to put it into context. That's more money than Hull City spent on any player before getting promoted in 2008. Championship income hasn't exactly rocketed in the last 10 years.
It's impossible for Adkins, he's tried being patient & diplomatic but he's up against owners who don't want to spend money although they must surely know even avoiding relegation is going to need some investment. Ehab will probably tell Adkins that with Grosicki & Bowen staying he has enough
