Northern Ireland voted Remain 56:44. They spoke for themselves.

Tell that to Margaret Hodge. Corbyn keeps shooting himself in the foot -or may be It's factions of his party that are doing the shooting. That right wing rag, the Guardian, is full of it tomorrow

2 polls in NI this year showed just 21% wanted a united Ireland. More than half the Catholics wanted to stay in the UK

Do you think being perceived as anti Semitic will cost them him votes?

The latest poll showed 45% in favour and 12% undecided. 25% say they have changed their minds because of Brexit. Even the polls you quote showed a majority expecting a United Ireland ‘at some stage’ in the future. I would think that demographics make this inevitable.

The one good thing about the last year has been the DUP being exposed as the reactionary religious fascists they are. Their Brexit stance is opposed to the majority in the North. Their religious position has driven many Middle ground Catholics to Sinn Fein. Their social stance on abortion, gay marriage etc has turned many middle ground Protestants against them. They are a complete and utter disgrace.

Sadly, they still hold the threat of violence in their sweaty little paws. A United Ireland requires the people of the Republic to vote for it as well as those in the North. Many might feel they can do without Protestant terrorism just as much as many of us weren’t so keen on Catholic violence. Not a foregone conclusion even if most in the North want it.

Corbyn isn't anti-Semitic, but yes, the perception that he - or the Labour party - is would cost him/them votes (if that's what you meant). As I've said several times on here, I have no knowledge of anti-Semitism in the Labour party, but I'm prepared to accept that there are elements that need rooting out. I do believe that it's exaggerated by Corbyn's enemies, though - from within Labour and from the other side. I'm pretty confident that the Tories are a much more racist party, but that's nothing new so it doesn't get the traction.

I was quoting ipso Mori in May this year. A United Ireland is at least a lifetime away imo, partly for the reasons you give

The perception, rather the reality, is what I’m interested in. I’m not so sure it would damage them. The Labour Party is much more popular with Muslims than the Tories are, and this had an impact at the last election.

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jun/12/muslims-turned-to-labour-rejected-tory-party

Without wishing to imply that all Muslims are anti Semitic, it’s obvious that many are anti Israel, as is a large chunk of the Labour Party, and this mixing up of anti semitism and anti Zionism seems to be endemic.

Similarly the perceived or actual anti Islam elements of the Tories might actually play well in some places and amongst their core vote.

To be clear, I do not think that the vast majority of either party is anti Semitic or Islamophobic, though I do think that the leadership of both have been hopeless at dealing with the issue.

    BBC in June

    http://www.thejournal.ie/united-ireland-poll-3-4059433-Jun2018/

It’s a fast changing and febrile environment. These numbers could swing wildly either way, depending on events. I’m in no position to second guess it. Or anything else for that matter.

    “Wilfully damaging our future”
Excuse me, I voted leave and would vote leave again and again and again and I don’t think for one minute I am wilfully damaging our future, I believe I am enhancing OUR FUTURE and not the corrupt EU’s idea on what our future should be, if you seriously wish to be led by a bunch of unelected Eurocrats like Barnier, Juncker et al then I think YOU are damaging my future and my children’s future.

I chose to confront Jeremy directly and personally to express my anger and outrage at the Labour Party's stance on #Antisemitism and the new code of conduct. I stand by my action as well as my words #EnoughIsEnough

This post and the one that inspired it show exactly how deep the divisions in this country are. It doesn’t really matter which side ‘wins’ this argument, we’ve all already lost, and will keep on losing. It’s a crying shame.
