Odd tournament for England. There is a seed of a good team there and Southgate seems aware of the limitations of the resources he has to work with. But it didn't take much for the bubble burst. Has he learnt the lessons? Don't play Stirling in this system (or any system to be honest). Try to make pro-active substitutions before the opposition equalise. Don't play Stirling in any system. Kane is a centre forward, he cannot supply the through balls to himself. Don't play Young at left wing back. Don't play Stirling. Encourage our midfielders to pass forward.

Plenty to work with but Southgate needs to, somehow, instill a bit of forward confidence in some players to make it quicker and more positive in the final third. We still won't win a tournament but it would be so much better to watch.
You missed another don’t pick Sterling and another don’t pick Young and completely missed don’t pick Jones<laugh>

Just been reading the HYS on the BBC website about the penalty award. There's a very sizeable majority saying it was. I agree.......and not just because Shearer said it wasn't. As it became apparent to Perisic that the ball was almost certainly going past him, he rapidly brought his hand down from an elevated position and connected with the ball.

Does anyone, who's not being paid to be controversial or just an idiot ex-footballer, think that it wasn't?
Yes me. I can see why it was awarded but it's very unlucky. See it in real time because slo mo changes your perception. He could just as easily been trying to get his arm out of the way. Not a penalty for me.

Late in the game a similar incident happened with Vida, but he was clearly trying to pull his arm out of the way and tuck it behind his body - Perisic didn't do anything like that.

I thought initially that it was harsh, but after seeing it a couple of times I can see why it was given, my argument would be that VAR should not have been involved as it was not a clear and obvious error, which was born out by the time the ref took to make the decision. The free kick for the first goal was a poor decision.

It's all about opinions and that's why for me it is unlucky. I saiid earlier VAR should not be used where opinions make the call.

The one thing I will always remember about this World Cup was the awful standard of refereeing. Cards given when they shouldn’t, cards not given when the should have been, especially when players have been pulled back by.their shirt or arms and particularly the acceptance of timewasting and fake head injuries

Maybe in the most important football match for 4 years, he was just making sure. I bloody would if I was him..

As soon as they repeated it, at normal speed, I thought it was a nailed on penalty and still think the same. I can understand your and Spurf's doubt but Shearer, Ferdinand, Lineker all saying it clearly wasn't, is just transparently bullshit.

I swear Klinsmann was laughing at them.

So with the Next WC being held in November and December in Qatar because it is too hot in June and July, if we send 8 or 9 first teamers to the tournament we might as well write off the 20-21 season, and having a 'one' in the year that would be a disaster. Does anyone know what the Premier league are planning?

Teams like Citeh, Manure and Chavski can just not send the youngsters out on loan, and still have a decent team. We will be fekked, 4 weeks playing and then giving them 3-4 weeks to recover will totally screw us. FIFA screwing Spurs again.

Don't worry, mate - that's 4.5 years away.
By then we will have won 2 or 3 PL titles, a couple of CL's and be the richest grossing club in the world!
We'll be dictating terms to FIFA let alone the FA. :emoticon-0148-yes:

However..

If I'm wrong, then we are totally scewed!! <laugh>

Yeah, I forgot,

Spurs win CL v Tel Aviv (Abramovic's new toy)
Chavs just manage to stay in the bottom tier of the football league on the last day of the season by drawing at the Emirates.
The goons appoint Big Sam Allashite, their 12th Manager in 4 seasons.
Citeh relegated due to FFP.
Fergie returns to manage Manure in an attempt to keep them in the Prem.

If only Carlsberg did football.

What the Twitterati don't realise was that Hugo's clanger in the final was an act of generosity - because with COurtois receiving the Golden Glove, the Chavs might receive a few million quid more when Los Ladrones come knocking at their door.
