Yet peope who are English citzens don't give up being Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Afro-Csribbean etc... Even the ones born here.
Nowt to do with the colour of their skin. Why should someone from England living elsewhere get lectured by you on loyalties when people living in England don't have to abide by the same rules?
The greater the difference, the less likely people are to integrate. This generally applies even where a parent is English, especially when it's a female because kids generally lean towards their father's culture.
Do we give them the choice of swear allegiance & loyalty to England or leave? It’s nothing to do with living here, it’s to do with becoming a citizen of the Country. You just picked countries who are not white by coincidence right? Could have picked Canada, US, Norway, Switzerland or many more.
Of course it’s not a coincidence, they’re the ex-colonies, where the vast majority of immigrants to this country came from. Norway ffs
Never noticed us playing them at cricket. Which was what the Tebbit test was. Though you didn't know what that was (supposedly). However I don't expect all the Poles and other Eastern Europeans who have moved here and will in time become British citizens to support England, Scotland or Wales against their countries of origin. Any figures for how many Norwegians have become British citizens BTW?
They wouldn’t last long It would be like us suddenly arriving somewhere to live and finding that beer was 30p a pint Out in a blaze of glory before you had time to apply for citizenship!
Probably, go find them. When do we insist residents become citizens or leave & to become citizens make a public declaration of their allegiance & loyalty to this Country. It’s not about what we ask people to do, it’s about what is expected of people to become Australian Citizens & that fact they choose to pledge allegiance & loyalty to Australia rather than returning home. They choose to become Australian. They give up being English. Our rules are differ & irrelvent to the conversation.
Citizenship essentially means the individual agrees to abide by the laws of the country which is granting said citizenship whilst they are residing in said country. Many countries allow joint citizenship. An individual's nationality is usually the country they were born in. Citizenship and nationality can usually be adopted by the children born to said citizens or nationals, including their parent(s) duality status. There are exceptions, but the vast majority in the western world would be entitled to use the qualifying "we" if they were dual citizens.
Our rules are pretty much exactly the same as Australia’s, if you want permanent residency, the right to vote and the right to travel in and out the country, you need to become a citizen and this is the oath... I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values. I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfil my duties and obligations as a British citizen.
It’s not a requirement to obtain permanent residency in the UK or Australia. You’re doing a grand job here, it’s almost like Bummers never left...
Of corse it’s different. Living in a country is different to becoming a citizen of the country. You’re doing a grand job here. It’s like Patty never existed.
