Adkins has confirmed an approach has been made for Long. So that'll probably be sorted by the end of the weekend. Bloody hell, it's good to be able to say **** is getting done. We still need another full back and a striker though.

Richardinho has been made available by Oxford, 33 but he's pretty handy, would be decent back up. A few Championship clubs chasing him.

How does anyone accurately measure potential?

My estimation was based on Mannion's reports, his discussed alleged potential and the fact he's represented England at some level.

But, in truth, I've never seen him play.

In a lower ranked, low spending Championship club, I would have thought that a promising keeper or two might have designs on the No.2 spot at least, and the fact another 'reserve' from a peer might dishearten.

    But, I'm just guessing.

For an extra £2,000,000.00 you can pay over 12 months.

Not sure Bradshaw is what we need. Would much rather we signed Kieffer Moore if anyone. We need a big lad upfront as Will Keane is definately not that player. We need someone to bully the defenders.

Would rather take someone like Madine on loan from Cardiff. He didn’t start many games when he moved to them in the Championship from Bolton. Can’t see him getting a look in if Cardiff have aspirations of staying in the PL.

He’s exactly the type of player we need. Particularly in the formation Nige prefers.

The problem with a big lad up front is that it increases the likelyhood that we’ll just launch the ball up to him constantly. And as we play with one up front, it means we wouldn’t have anybody to play it off to.

Nobody needs a big striker, it suits some teams but I don’t think it’s ever suited us having a target man.

Certainly the type of player we need, just wonder what his temperament is like these days, you don't want a twat in the dressing room?

Nigel Adkins expects more new arrivals "early next week" as Hull City move for George Long

The Tigers have so far signed four new faces ahead of the Championship season

Hull City head coach Nigel Adkins expects to bring more new faces to the KCOM Stadium next week – with Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long firmly in his sights.

Adkins has enjoyed a productive week in the transfer market after adding David Milinkovic, Reece Burke and Jordy de Wijs to a squad now nearing the end of a warm-weather training camp in Portugal.

The flurry of business has bolstered Adkins ranks ahead of tonight’s friendly against Braga but City’s head coach continues to scour the market for further additions.

Long has emerged as one target as Adkins looks to recruit a direct competitor to his current number one David Marshall.

The 24-year-old has been made available by Sheffield United this summer and previously worked with Adkins during his time in charge at Bramall Lane.

Long spent all of last season on loan with AFC Wimbledon and is understood to have been the subject of an approach from City this week.

Any proposed deal is unlikely to come until next week as the Tigers conclude their time on the Algarve when facing Braga tomorrow evening but Adkins has suggested another breakthrough is imminent.

“I’m not expecting anyone else to come out with us in Portugal as we fly back on Saturday but I’m optimistic there might be some new faces in Cottingham when we get back on Monday,” said Adkins.

Although Adkins has already told David Marshall he will begin the season as his number one, youngsters Callum Burton and Will Mannion are the only alternatives if injuries were to strike.

Adkins is also keen to sign at least one full-back, a midfielder and a centre forward before the Championship season begins next month and has been encouraged by the recent inroads made.

“Lee Darnbrough and his recruitment team are working hard. I’m pleased now players are coming in and I know there’s more to come,” Adkins said.

“Ideally I want to get ourselves in that position where we’ve got 20 outfield players who are going to be the first team group and 10 of the under-23s who can gain experience around them. Hopefully then they become part of the senior group because there needs to be an evolution.

“We’re not looking at anyone going out but who knows what might happen during the transfer window.”

Can't wait to tell my old man we're signing Long.

    <laugh>

I know it's Adkins, and I know he's a chirpy chappy, but that is unusually perky and hopeful.

Do we have a clause with Leicester around about getting a percentage of any future sale price for Harry - or did Ehab is his wisdom waive that?

Someone we haven't mentioned is Sam Winnall.... great record at Barnsley, went to the worlds biggest club, couldn't get a game and went on loan to Derby Wannabes... I just read he went to Wednesday for 500k but his wages would perhaps lock him out of here...

I heard that the nob jockey (being the astute business man, sorry boy, he is) had agreed to give Leicester half of what they paid for him back. :emoticon-0102-bigsm
