Yeah. I never said there were not. I merely point out they are all of a type and a creative central midfielder is one I don't think is there.

we make strikers, players with pace or even wide men who can dribble but guys who can pick a pass?

    we don't value it.

like.... if we confine this to Liverpool youths... Ben woodburn is only one that comes remotely close and he is simply not a modric type... or iniesta or silva etc etc etc.

we seem to like to buy them as clubs not not develop them.

    Part 1 Don't be silly
part 2 In the U21's not particularly below that yes in particular Phil Foden though if a promising youngster will actually fulfil their potential is pretty much impossible to predict.

you are that sure on part 1?

foden is a winger.. very nice player. not a creative central.midfielder to put his foot on the ball and control play.

I would have said him if i thought he fitted the bill?

    any others?

And another version in 2010. Plus the 1998 version was re-released in 2002 and 2006.

the post i originally replied to said creative players then later said commanding CM's not my fault you have moved the goalposts whilst i was walking the dog. <doh>
Didn't see as much of the U17 team ( i was housebound during the U20 WC so saw lots of it <laugh>) but seem to remember there was creativity throughout that team - in fact i would say that was the best i've ever seen any England team play.

so you really believe that from the U17's to U21's England players are physically stronger than players from any other nation.
Might as well scrap the sugar tax then :bandit:

I wouldn't equate general public with professional football club selection processes.

we look very specifically for bigger, faster, stronger.

we stick anyone with trickery out wide cos they are small.

it's amazing given how vastly vastly different the top level prem clubs are from this.

then we wonder why our clubs have way less home-grown players. 30% v 50% abroad.
    we self filter

and this is just my opinion but I really can't think of a player since scholes who was a real passing cm.

well 1 problem is the clear problem of getting game time as clubs just buy players instead of trying to "grow" the talent they already have. It is noticeable how many promising youngsters are looking abroad , particularly the Bundeslegia , as they believe they will get the chance to play and Lookmans experience has just encouraged the flow.

PS @PJS - BACK AND BOSSING IT do you think Lookman will stay at Everton ?

My comments were from watching the current team which is packed full of young players. Even if there were more technical players coming through the under 15s-17s etc, then they'd need game time. Where exactly is this going to come from? Arsenal under Wenger were one of the few PL teams to try and develop English players into more technical continental players, and we know where that ended. We are doing too little and giving little support in the PL. Which PL team will give these kind of players the time of day?

In my opinion, far too little English players are prepared to leave the country, which i think is a huge problem for England. The players deny the opportunities to develop under different conditions and playing styles and are too comfortable at home.

The closest player we have that is technically good on the ball, is leaving to join West Ham on a free. He was hyped up to the max but is leaving Arsenal quietly with no other top clubs interested. Wilshere is only 26 years old!

I'I happy we made the semis... Was a good run. I didn't expect that before the tournament began.

Honestly, I don't expect to see England win the title in my lifetime. I know the kids have done well, but there are just too many good teams out there and only so many tournaments in a lifetime.

That semi was probably the closest I'll ever see us come (besides 1990... But we were winning this one for so long).

So happy to have watched what was probably our best chance that we will have in my life. <ok>

Lookman's just another youngster joining the flow, he didn't start it. Our own Ryan Kent has been at Freisburg. It gives them good experience which they can bring back with them, as most are likely to come back after their loans.

Maybe that is the best hope. If they come back better players "ready" to play for a top Premiership Club more will follow and more European clubs will look here.

Plus they will return more rounded players that is assuming they do return. Think having players with experience of foreign leagues should also benefit England in the long term.
