Just got back from walking the dog to slow my heart rate down.
Got a sneak preview of the pens from a neighbour’s yells which were a fraction of a second before the action on my screen, he must have been watching non HD or something, which was actually quite calming.
We deserved that. Played the better football for the vast majority of the game, just about kept our heads in the face of some pretty vile provocation, and definitely had the bottle. I only know two Colombians and they are both lovely people, I refuse to believe that the way their team behaves is a true reflection of their national character.
I think Sweden will be really tough, they are awkward buggers and came through a very tough qualifying group plus beating Italy in the play off. But we are better than them, and we should at least have an honest contest this time.

If Colombia had succeeded, the quarter finals in my opinion would have been devalued by their presence after their thuggery for the first 65 minutes in tonight’s game.

Congrat to all england fans (included myself!) . Awful, afwul match to watch after 85 min, before that it never look they might score. Unfortunately in that fatal corner trippier was a inch too short or misjumped 00,1 second too late... never the less great win against hard team who were very unsportmanship time to time. They did play well too about 10-15 min of the match. Now against hard working defencemonster sweden. ... Hard match ahead again and hope southgate learns some weakness in their defence until saturday.
Scary and brilliant all in one game, I think I have found a new love in Trippier okay he plays for Spurs but still loving him! And I never rated Henderson but seen a new side to him tonight and shows Dier to be rather ineffective.

Colombians urged calm last night after the two players who missed penalties against England suffered insults and threats from furious fans on social media.
Vile messages targeting Mateus Uribe and Carlos Bacca started to appear within minutes of Colombia being knocked out of the World Cup following the dramatic shoot-out.
Uribe's penalty hit the crossbar while Bacca's attempt was saved by hero England goalkeeper Pickford.
The posts, mostly aimed at Bacca who fans thought took the worse penalty, warned the players they were 'dead', urged them to kill themselves and told them not to return to the South American country.

Hours before the showdown with England in Moscow Escobar's brother, Sachi, told of his fears that another player could be killed if Colombia failed to get through to the quarter-finals, warning that the country 'had not learned the lessons' of the tragedy.

He said: 'I want to send an important message to those people who think things can be resolved with violence, and with weapons, that they can take someone's life just because they make a mistake, in this case the life of a football player.
'Football should be a vehicle of peace and social transformation, and at the end of the day, it is just a game.
'But I truly hope that, if Colombia failed to meet these expectations, then the tragedy that happened to my brother doesn't repeat itself. God forbid that it happens again.'
And he said of the death threats made against Sanchez: 'As a brother who has gone through this, I know what must be going through their heads, and I wouldn't want anyone to go through that.
'Carlos must be feeling both sad for the mistake he made, and very afraid, and his family too.
'My brother never received any threats, they just shot him dead in the most cowardly way.
'The fact that people are still allowed to say these things on social network sites, even threaten him with death... shows me that nothing good came out of Andres' death, nothing was learned.
'These people are just lowlifes who are not real Colombian football fans, who should be arrested and thrown into jail.

- The sinister messages were made despite a police investigation into early death threats made towards Colombian player Carlos Sanchez after he was send off three minutes into the team's World Cup opener against Japan.
Many outraged football fans pointed out that yesterday was the 24th anniversary of the death of Andres Escobar, who was shot dead after his own goal was blamed for sending Colombia home at the 1994 World Cup.
One post by Twitter user David Castaneda warned: 'Die Carlos Bacca. Son of a bitch. No-one wants you, gonorrhoea. To this country you don't return.'

Interesting view from Tim Vickery, an English journalist who's extremely knowledgeable about South American football, on the radio this morning. He said that he thought the way the Colombians behaved was indefensible, but that the reason they performed as they did was that they over-estimated England and decided that they had to stop us by any means possible. They also thought that the appointment of an American referee would be certain to work against them. Had they set up less cautiously (three defensive midfielders), and played properly, they would have had a better chance of winning fair and square.

He was very good on the wireless before the game, making the same point about the very defensive set up and saying that the absence of James really changed the way they would play and not for the better. He also said that Falcao is useless with his back to goal, as he proved to be.
Now I've slept on it, I can think a bit straighter than I could last night.
If we're going to keep the game beautiful and inspire people with it, there has to be a way of enforcing the rules so the antics Columbia pulled last night are properly penalised, and becomes a redundant tactic that teams don't try - because they can't get away with it. By the end of the week no-one will care or remember how Columbia approached the game or the dreadful example they gave that anything is OK as long as you win. And then, at some point in the future, we'll see another team doing the same.
Teams who choose to play like Columbia did for much of last nights match don't deserve to be at the World Cup. Maybe we can't fix FIFA, but we can at least try to enforce the rules so cheating is punished and not rewarded. I thought the referee was made of the right stuff, but he let some things go - rather than do the right thing and possibly have a riot on his hands. Sly cheating used to work for two reasons - the ref couldn't catch it all and the general public was oblivious to much of it. These days the latter isn't true with all those cameras and replays catching pretty much everything. So now we have the situation where the referee doesn't have the tools to identify and punish actions the rest of us can see on TV.
Agree with Strolls sharing of Tim Vickery's views - if they'd respected us a little less, set up differently and tried to play properly, who knows?
I going to comment about the many negative comments coming from members when the game was leveled at 1-1.
I say this in good spirits as someone observing from the outside looking in.

I noticed there was a rush of comments along the lines of ......... Oh, were done for .......... that's it, game over, etc etc.
I couldn't believe how so many were making the same comments.

Well, l can tell you, whatever has happened in the past for the England team, is in the past, completely.
You have a good new young manager who has a genuine interest in achieving for the national side.
He's not a 'buy in' manager, pretending to have the national interest at heart,
Whether he can make further inroads is yet to be seen but hey, he's having a real dig and is not afraid to pick new young players, who in turn,
want to succeed for their country as well.
Southgate could of easily taken the tried and tested method by opting for the likes of Rooney and such but no, he has showed that he wants to
build a new team for the future whilst making the most of the current situation and getting the desire results.
Well done to him ............... and well done to you folks supporting the English team.
You have already succeeded and l sincerely hope you continue to win.
Truth is, you have a genuine opportunity to go all the way, the only thing that might stop you is a lack of confidence which really, shouldn't be the case.
I urge you to get behind your team and when and if your behind the eight-ball or whether the scores are level, show some belief and back your team.

Sweden have a mean defence and won't be giving many penalties away, so it'll be a low scoring game.
England will have to be patient. Not convinced by Sterling, he's fast but not on his game at the moment, low on confidence and constantly running into traffic. Would prefer Vardy or Rashford.

However, Liverpool won the league in 1966. Manchester City were champions of division two.
