Why? been there done that....loads moaned about him when he was here.......................we move on!!
I’ll reserve judgement until I have seen how he performs at Championship level. It’s a big step up, but so it was for Dele Ali and Vardy so it can and has been done many times.
You can argue that our most consistent players have come from League One or below, Flint, Smith, Pack, O'Dowda, Brownhill , Maynard didn't do so bad stepping up either. Also Bryan and Reid improved from loans down there!
Sounds like he has Reid-like work rate, but never been a prolific finisher. Time will tell, but there will be some question marks over this, although he has not insignificant experience in both the Premiership and Championship.
I wasn't getting at that aspect, I just meant that it's a shame that we will now likely miss out on some other proven players in that position, despite having money to spend. I hope Weimann comes good in that position but by all accounts from fans of his previous clubs, he runs a lot and will create chances through effort but isn't the greatest footballer on the ball.
Interesting signing, 26 so just one year older than Reid. Wants to play through the middle. On the plus side, he has a high work rate, played in the Premiership for nearly an entire season and has then played over 100 games in the Championship, on the negative side his goals per game ratio is poor. It does mean we have two target men, Diedhou and Djuric and two men to play off that target man, Weimann and Taylor. Quite often on here people state that we are selling experience but nor replacing it. We have now bought 3 championship players, Weimann, Webster and Watkins. It will be very interesting to see LJ's team and substitutes against Forrest
Will Weimann play down the middle with Djuric till Fammy gets back ? Or maybe Weimann with Paterson as per early last season, Reid and Paterson. Doesn't Watkins like playing in the middle as well as wide ? Not sure where that leaves Taylor.
I Don't think he will play two big men up top unless we are going for it at the end,Taylor,Weimann alongside him. However was chatting to a Rovers shareholder reckons he is best played behind a front two in a triangle, but he is not a man you want up top as a lonesome striker.
It will be interesting how LJ sets up without Fammy for the first 6 games. You can add Watkins, Paterson and Adelakun to the equation as well. Who knows LJ might find, as last season, another £10million Bobby Reid. Taylor looks like a 'Penrice' to me, a player who plays off a big man.
Derby's answer to some of their fans with regard to the 'Weimann' deal, 'Of course you would like a larger fee for a 26-year-old international who has played more than 250 senior games and scored 42 goals in his career.' It looks a cracking deal to me.
