I still like it, tonight’s farce was due to a ****, piss weak ref. If it’s used to aid a strong good referee it works well in the main. There’s been plenty of games were it’s ensured the right decisions and thus the right result.
VAR like any tool is only as good or bad as the people using it. The refs are ALWAYS **** in WC tournaments folks. I am confident it will be more sensibly used AND judged from, in the Prem
The Spain goal was onside, so Var got that one right...and the remaining six decisions it either got wrong, or wasted time for nothing. So it's officially ****.
I'm not. In fact, like any half decent ref, I'm sticking with my original decision - give it the red card.
Haha, nah, how it’s used needs work, it’s still obviously far from perfect, but the basic principle of using replays to ensure that major refereeing **** ups are either minimised or eradicated has to be a good thing for the game at the top level imo.
Those of us against it have never said it won't correct some wrongs as it obviously will. It's just all the other **** that comes with it and the bad far outweighs the good imo.
Like with anything, at the start that happens, and it takes time. The refs in the Prem may have their faults but they're a damned sight better than the clowns we had on show tonight. The English refs will be watching this I'm sure and learning from it.
The problem is with people saying it's down to the person using it is the standard of refereeing is pretty poor so it's not going to work. Should focus more on improving refereeing standards imo.
Well it's not in the PL next year anyway just the cups at PL grounds i think and hopefully we've gone down by the time it comes in.
Well exactly. It slows the game down, undermines the officials, and solves nothing in the way of controversy. The best refs in this WC have been the ones who have ****ed it off.
Were never going to agree on this one mate. I'll have a wager that in 5 years they will have to reduce each half to 40 mins because of the constant stoppages and in 10 years it will be exactly the same as American football, where not only will VAR generate constant stoppages in the game, the TV companies will negotiate these stoppages to go to commercial breaks.
Spot on, this is where people show total lack of understanding of what is going on. VAR doesn't make any decisions, the ref makes them all still.
The bit I don’t get is why it takes so long for the bods in the booth to tell the ref he should look at it, for him to then jog to the halfway line to spend a minute watching, to then award the pen, to then deal with the other team protesting, to then tell the goalkeeper to get onto his line and the players to leave the box. If you can’t reverse your decision in 30 seconds it’s not conclusive enough to bother. Just get on with the game.
That's besides the point. The purpose of VAR is to give decisions the refs will always invariably miss. No amount of improvement will prevent that.
if the ref is **** then VAR is going to make him look a right ****. it doesn't look good at this tournament and if we get it in our league with the **** refs we have now the game will be longer than American Football. perhaps that's why they are bringing it in so the septics can get their adverts in.
