SUNDERLAND will attempt to push through the signing of Wolfsburg striker Patrick Helmes in the last 48 hours of transfer activity for 2011. With the window closing at 11pm tomorrow, the Black Cats still have a number of irons in the fire. Manager Steve Bruce is still hoping to sign two strikers and a left-winger, but German international Helmes has emerged as his priority. http://www.journallive.co.uk/safc/s...se-to-deal-for-patrick-helmes-61634-29325704/
"Manager Steve Bruce is still hoping to sign two strikers and a left-winger" Bruce is going to be a busy man if he can pull this off, Hes good in the transfer market is Brucey and he hasnt really let us down yet in this department, just begs the question who could they be? Not seen anyhting of this Helmes, what type of striker is he anyone? Hopefully the other 2 are Bellamy & Kranjcar loans with permanent option on Kranjcar.
As far as Im aware he is a tall well built player ? who can look after himself on the pitch and can head it like a rocket ?
Only 6ft so not exactly tall, looking at his record he had two consecutive good seasons at Koln in bundesliga 2 before moving to bayer leverkusen and scored 21 league goals in his first year in the bundesliga. He suffered a bad knee ligament injury and has only played 31 league games in 2 seasons since scoring 8. However he has played 3 games this season scoring 2
Dont know anything about the lad apart from the stats above. We need someone to take the weight of gyan and allow him a bit of space as in our games this season hes been marked by 2 defenders. If hes a target man and can weigh in with 10 goals this season i would say snap him up.
Not sure about take the weight off - maybe someone who is willing to put his neck on the line for the sake of scoring a goal - that's what's missing - Bent used to do it, Phillips did it and this is why they scored goals - we had no-one against Newcastle, Liverpool, Brighton and Swansea this has been nowhere. Gyan is looking disinterested (IMO) but not sure if this is the case or if he's still not fully fit.. NEED someone and know nothing about this Helmes bloke - is he another Tommy Hauser??
I think he would be a fairly good signing. Strong & experienced. Maybe a good counterfoil for Gyan... Its the LW that I am looking foward to. We have been craving a LW! Cannot wait til tomorrow Always love transfer deadline day!
Thats very clever there the way you changed that name around for comical purposes ..........................................mmmmmmm! Then again, its a little bit like how you are refered to as a complete bell-end on this forum?
He's not a target man like. He is very strong on the ball and hits the ball cleanly, not particularly quick with it, but would be a good move. Averages better than 1 in 2 his whole career, despite 2 injury affected years, impressive stuff. German footballers can play anywhere, no worries on adjusting etc.
Well BB, I know nothing about him but if I have the choice of your opinion or Chaps I will pick you every time.
Helmes, PDC and left winger.... i would go nuts!! Hate to say it but can't see all three happening, would be an easy £30 mil out the door ( unless winger was loan ).
