My grandmother was German and she didn't support Hitler. Poor Oma, RIP, she would have made a great Luis Garcia type forward, she was very spry and creative.
Could do worse. Could do better. Certainly not going to walk into first team. He is backup at best. At least if we have a famine though we know he'll be one of the last to starve due to his fat reserves. So maybe Klopp is expecting an apocolyse of some kind... In which case Shaqiri is an inspired signing... ... Unless it is a zombie apocalypse, in which case he would make a nice juicy meal and be the first to go. (But then we could collect insurance money). I'm not excited about him, but if we get him I'll be routing for an apocolyse of some kind.
If he did it always it'd be insulting to the country he represents but up to them to sort.. and UEFA should stilldeal. For example no England rugger bugger ever does this for example. As he did so only v Serbia.... it's a clear political statement. He should be banned
I agree, he was being a twat; however I'm not in favour of frivolous bans for wearing flags. Craig Bellamy used to bad mouth everyone on the field, he was never banned (for that). Is a flag worse bad mouthing someone. FIFA is already too sensitive (example the poppies). I don't approve of being more sensitive.
There's a difference imo between a person's place of birth and a person who puts himself and his own little dig at a nation above his responsibility to his team. Shaqiri put himself first there. Given he moved to Switzerland at 1 yesrs old it is purely down to what he heard and his views on Kosovo not any personal experience. The right thing to go is go out and grind the Serbs to dust playing football, not making cheap digs thst can come bav k to bite your own team. This says to me he will put himself first and so I don't think klopp should buy him.
There's a better than evens chance that Serbian aggression and interfearance is the reason he didn't grow up in his birth nation. Not saying that that justifies him being a twat, but it does explain why he might have nationalist pride of Kosovo.
I have the full set of the Milligan war chronicles, very funny but also very sad. Love the way he first met Harry Secombe. I have read them several times.
Just an update. He wore the Kosovo flag on one boot and Swiss flag on the other against Brasil too. So, it wasn't just against Serbia... Those happen to be his boots. Now apparently he made some Albanian eagle symbol with his hands which is a political symbol and definitely only used to rile up the serbs.
There's a joke here about his one eye and Adolf's lone testicle. Something about keeping your eye on the ball, but I can't quite make it work.......
Is this the singing ringing tree? **** me, that dates me ( and everyone else who recognised it but had the nouse to keep quiet)
I suspect I don't share political beliefs with many players. Shaqiri's coach at Stoke spoke very highly of him, especially as he's worked hard on the less desirable aspects of his game. At 26 with his skills I don't see much of a risk for what he would cost. Of course he might've supported Remain, in which case he's a corporate asskisser who can do one.
