So why was that not given then? Iceland defender didn’t get the ball and trod on his foot as he was about to cross.

Ref didnt even review it, clear pen.

I don’t entirely disagree and it hasn’t actually slowed things down too badly. Just had 2 examples today now though where one was reviewed a minute after the play actually happened, what if there is a bad tackle in that period. Does the red card get given or because you go back to the pen, everything happening in that minute become void?

its just how and when it’s used and I’m sure over time it’ll get better. Just think that considering it’s mesnt to overturn clear and obvious decisions, hows it overturned the france pen when he got a touch on ball, but not overturned Argentina one where guy didn’t get anywhere near the ball

    Answer in your post lol....

Is there a set of VAR rules? Because as Mito says in live play it definitely seems to be up to the ref whereas when a goal is scored a review seems to be automatic

Since the Irish aren't there it was nice to see a descendant of the diaspora get the equaliser for Iceland.

I think the france one was the perfect use of VAR, waited for game to stop, ref was not sure he got it right so reviewed it and corrected his decision in his opinion.
I happen to agree with ref totally at first i thought good challenge but on slow mo thought he took the player down.
Had that been us V Utd (my scale) i would have been demanding a pen. Not sure if the rules agree with me though cause of the most miniscule of touches. Pen for me though so VAR worked there.

Your second point i think you are spot on but it goes back to the ref having to think he has made a mistake or this clear and obvious bit but that one should have been a pen too. In terms of VAR though the ref got it wrong in live play and didnt use VAR so not really VARs fault

This is the big problem though as slow mo doesn't give a true reflection what happened.

Non contact sport on the way.

I'm not to sure I understand this var business, every goal is reviewed i think. Then is it at the refs discretion or what?

it's down to refs. they are god on the field.

so argue is booked and booking stays despite howler decision and no pen... no var.

then every goal is getting var as policy.

    .imo it's a heap of ****e.

just give teams 2 var per game total and let their managers call for it.

if you are upheld.you keep your var.

imo that's the only fair way but the ref is still making the call.

Any assertion that something is a fact can benefit from being backed up.
There have been a number of decisions that have been disputed after the event by analysts. A simple - and simplistic - statement that it improves things is open to debate. The VAR referees are just as vulnerable to subjective interpretation of what they see as anyone else.
Long before VAR came along TV analysts would fail to agree on something they've seen from a multitude of angles over a longer period of time.

VAR worked there, but should the game have carried on? What if Denmark had gone down the other end and scored?

Feels better that Peru (in this case) ask for the replay, game is stopped, reviewed, decision made, Peru keep a VAR claim or lose a VAR claim depending on the outcome.

    Awful pen
