The only negative story seems to be an alleged bust-up with Hughes over his "unhealthy" lifestyle, which was denied. Given his speed, it's unlikely he's at the pies every night.

Conversely, Mark Bowen, Stoke's coach under Hughes, said last October, “I’ve been delighted for Shaq because this year especially, although we saw glimpses of it at the back end of last season, he seems to have come back more focused in terms of what the Premier League is about and what is expected of him.

“He’s come in from a different style of football and some players take a little while longer than others, but I think he’s now showing his true capabilities. And I must say what probably gets him in our team is not so much what he does on the ball because we accept that and that’s why we brought him into the club.

“It’s all the bits and pieces you have to do out of possession for the team, getting into shape and working back for the team. That’s been the key for me this year compared to last year. Maybe last year he felt as if `just give me the ball and I’ll go and play.’ But this year he realises there’s another side to the game and he’s doing that job fantastically well.

“He’s got a humour on the training ground and mixes in with the group. He’s a good personality.

“He had little calf strains and thigh strains a lot last season, but now he seems stronger - and not just mentally, but physically, is more able to stand up to the Premier League.”

Added to his speed, an ideal sub for Salah, and his goals, he was 4th in the league for creating chances. And at 26 he's just about to hit his peak. The more I read of him, the more I like.

For the price, you aren’t going to get any player who is as good and proven in the league.

Quality wise id def take him as an alternative, lea be real he fits into that front 3 better than any of the rest of our backups.

Only issue is workload etc but that’s where have to trust Klopp and the training team and scouts that they’ve done their research and believe he can do it.

Thing tjat alwags gets me is people say certain players wouldnt fit into way we play, but until they’ve started training with the team how do we know? They’ve probably never been asked to play that way so to judge them is unfair.

Everything I've seen from Klopp suggests to me that despite the Jolly German persona up front, he's single-minded and ruthless behind the scenes.
If Shaqiri pisses about he'll be off to the Russian Front in no time.

my opinion on shaqiri is the following

    1. his Bayern days showed immaturity. he stayed under his clubs skirts.far too long unwilling to jump.

    2. his inter days proved he wants ready for the big time
    he was an utter flop.

    3. his Switzerland career has been good where he is big fish in small pond and can dominate.

    4. his stoke career has been frankly mixed. he started well but imo he is over weight and not that fit and it shows. for me whatever was said to keep him happy I think the reality may be different.

so..... I don't see an ambitious character here so I question how he will fit in. I really.dont care if he was on a free or 12mil. in effect we should ignore the bargain aspect.and ask if he will be troublesome or get with the programme here.

we need someone to push mane and salah not someone who just whines.

if his attitude prove a good AND we get someone else to play 9 AND we bring through Wilson then that would be a fabulous improvement to depth in the front line.

for me it's all about work ethic and attitude not a bargain. we know what his skill levels are and what he can do... but attitude must be right.

Wouldn't bet on it. We'll be linked with everyone there, and almost everyone else will be after Salah, or anyone else at our club who isn't crap.

Didn't rate him, but now he might actually turn out alright.
So he goes there, Griezmann goes Barca and Dembele goes....

    In fairness dembele got injured.

I think personally there is an element of his wages being massive and paying for Griezmann, coutinho, suarez and messi is about 1.25mil a week.

I believe dembele is on 250k per week.

I just happen to think they will want him back once suarez is done and can't afford to not be ready. A loan year helps pay his wages and gets him games too.

Barca are on record as saying it takes a year to teach new signings to play football, maybe next season he will be up to speed.

Maybe, but where will he play when the front 3 will be greez, bitey and messer.

It's not imo anything about him not being up to it, I just think they have to balance things.
