Is Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos a good signing?
Not sure how good he is playing in the Ukrainian league.

    depends...

if we signed him he is a good squad player

if West ham signed him then he's an idiot

if Liverpool signed him he's world class

Man Utd. They've also signed Diogo Dalot, apparently.

It's been one hell of a week already. Monday was 'World Cheese Day' but today's potentially an even bigger day in The Brian calendar...

Apparently, it's Fellaini Day over at The Emirates. Please, just sign the contract, you big lummox. I've got a cousin who is threatening to give up his season tickets if they do. It'll probably be the funniest thing that I've ever witnessed.

If he signs, the drinks are on me. <cheers>

I had a bit of a moment as I was listening to the radio this afternoon, detailing the plight of Aston Villa after losing the play-off game to Fulham. My thoughts slipped back to those days 10 or so years ago, when we were competing with them for a sniff of a CL place or the glory of the EL. I wondered how the others in the PL had fared over the years between then and now.

This is the table from the season 2005/06. Yes, that season....shudders. However, it did mark the start of our resurrection as a club.

    5 Tottenham Hotspur 38 18 11 9 53 38 +15 65
    6 Blackburn Rovers 38 19 6 13 51 42 +9 63
    7 Newcastle United 38 17 7 14 47 42 +5 58
    8 Bolton Wanderers 38 15 11 12 49 41 +8 56
    9 West Ham United 38 16 7 15 52 55 −3 55
    10 Wigan Athletic 38 15 6 17 45 52 −7 51
    11 Everton 38 14 8 16 34 49 −15 50
    12 Fulham 38 14 6 18 48 58 −10 48
    13 Charlton Athletic 38 13 8 17 41 55 −14 47
    14 Middlesbrough 38 12 9 17 48 58 −10 45
    15 Manchester City 38 13 4 21 43 48 −5 43
    16 Aston Villa 38 10 12 16 42 55 −13 42
    17 Portsmouth 38 10 8 20 37 62 −25 38
    18 Birmingham City (R) 38 8 10 20 28 50 −22 34
    19 West Bromwich Albion (R) 38 7 9 22 31 58 −27 30
    20 Sunderland (R) 38 3 6 29 26 69 −43 15

The famed 'Sky 4' finished above us. Below us, the only clubs who haven't since been relegated are Everton, who may as well play in beige for all the impact they've made in the years since. The other is perennial mid-table journeymen, Manchester Citeh. Whatever happened to them?

Of the others, pretty much all of them have had multiple owners that have racked up dissatisfaction amongst supporters, financial problems and very often, multiple relegations. I make it 6 out of 16 have gone down 2 divisions since that season. Most of them have probably spent more cash on transfers than we have in that time. A number of them have gone bust with a few more to follow, no doubt.

Only 1 has outstripped our improvement, at the cost of £2 billion......and counting. When seen in context, the journey we've made in 12 years really is truly remarkable.

They are not rivals but Stoke apparently think that Adam's time as their chief thug is drawing to a close as they tried to sign a suitable replacement, but their offer for James McLean has been rejected by West Brom.

BMJ started the rise in PL form together with restoring the
style of play we call the "Spurs way" . <applause>

The reality is that Citeh winning the lottery has denied
Spurs four years in the CL (though two of those years
were equally attributable to < standard > Spursy antics) .

I've got a sparky in and I'm babysitting him. Mrs wouldn't leave it until the World Cup. Oh no, it has to be done now.

Electricity is magic to me. Now plumbing, that I understand.

You don't even have to back that far to see a rather swift demise for Villa.

In the 09-10 season we were neck and neck with them at the end of April, as we sat in 4th place above them on goal difference.
We won two of our remaining three games, including the Crouchigol at the Etihad, while they lost both of theirs.
Our first Champions League campaign came off the back of that, including wins over both Milan sides.

They lost the final of the League Cup, got knocked out in the semis of the FA Cup and ended up in the Europa League after finishing 6th.
This meant a second meeting with Rapid Vienna in the play-off round of that competition in order to reach the group stages.
They lost to them for the second time in two years. A 9th place finish lead pointed the way down that they've been following ever since.

Relegation, a play-off loss to Fulham, having John Terry play for them and now apparently they're going bankrupt.
What would HolteLegends make of it all?
