I think we will either sign a CB or ST, can't see us buying both. As much as I'd love to see Jay Rodriguez sign i feel the defence has got to be more of a priority, we have no issues scoring goals as we have demonstrated in the 6 matches so far. Got to be honest though not sure who, I see Paul Robinson has been mentioned and whilst i have heard he is a good player don't know much about him.
If we sign anyone it will be someone already in pipeline...NC is so careful I can't see him managing a last minute thing on Wednesday, can you? He's a cross the t's, dot the i's kind of guy.
Why not? He's worked in Sports banking so I'm sure he's used to handling late transactions and concluding deals. IIRC the Papa Waigo deal was done on deadline day by Cortese??
Hope you're right as, like the rest of you, would like a CB and striker as it's a long season. However, as Adkins has pointed out, there is the loan spell as well. After all, Guly started as a loan and it gives NA the chance to see how a player fits in before signing him.
I've been against the suggestion of us signing Beckford since the start, but I have to say that I'd completely forgotten that Adkins had amanged him before at Scunthorpe. Suddenly I'm more open to the idea. Just need to make sure he cuts out the diving.
I'm not 100% convinced that Beckford is better than Barnard and certainly not £2.5 million better. Barnard is a very hard worker, gets his body in the way and wins free kicks. Pace would be the only obvious attribute where Beckford has the advantage and that little bit more experience at the higher level
I think it's more a case of lazy journalism. Very easy to link West Ham with pretty much anyone. Leicester likewise. That said, if Parker or Cole are sold in the next few days, West Ham will probably be looking to replace them straight away.
I remember the days of being able to go down to Staplewood every week to watch them train. Nicked a football that the likes of Paul Telfer took upon himself to smash over into the trees. Those were the days.
hmmm i dont even go down there to watch academy games, doesnt feel like the fans are welcome down there anymore.
That attribute of pace is something we need at certain times in games, whether it comes from Beckford or someone else. AOC used to give us that, thought we missed that outlet when backs to the wall against Millwall. Certainly think a front runner with pace will improve squad.
100% agree,a pacey striker would compliment our game so much,it would complete our attack and after watching yesterdays performance it makes me froth at the mouth to think of a pacey striker in the team, although you couldn't drop connolly at the moment as he's on fire.I don't think lambert should be undroppable either (controversial)
new poster to this site so don't shoot me down too badly. I agree with most that we need a new centre half and a different striking option if we are to consistently beat teams. I also share Adkins' obvious beliefs that we should now only be signing players who will form part of a premiership squad if and when we get there, I think the signings of Cork, De Ridder and Fox prove this. Based on nothing more than just who I'd like to see at the club, what about Andrew Davies from Stoke. He was excellent in his spell on loan here and, whilst he is on a months loan at palace at the moment, will surely be available for a good price as he hardly featured for stoke last year and since then they have signed Upson and Woodgate. I'd be delighted if we could get him back here to play with Fonte. With regards to the striker I like Rodriguez as I think he could play with or instead of Lambert and therefore gives us good options in terms of combinations up front. Baring that I wouldn't be disappointed with a loan signing, be it from a premiership team (Mbambe Diouf maybe) or maybe one from our many contacts abroad. We are an attractive prospect for clubs and players with regards to loans so lets use it if we need something particular in. Just looking for raw attributes of pace and power which is all we lack, in my opinion.
Think Lambert wasn't great yesterday, can't play well every game. A pacey frontman on for him yesterday would of been ideal, Forte not good enough and I can see Barnard struggling to get any game time with us in this league. Agree with Connally on fire atm, got to start every game in this form and he's injury free.
Andrew Davies imo would be a poor signing. Besides his injury problems I don't think he was strong and physical enough as CB (was RB at Boro) but was very committed. Was very similar to Chris Baird when playing CB at the time when we conceded shed loads of goals when high balls were pumped into our box. Would like Baird back as RB but not Davies......welcome to Not606
Yeh as much as i love lambo i do think he could do with a rest at times and also we do need a different option up there, the good thing is i think nigel knows this and we can expect something to happen,if not in the window then deffo in the loan window.I love barney,he'd be just what we need if he was fast.
