(As old Transfer Rumour thread was pulled, I decided to make this one just for the final few days of the window - if a Mod could sticky it would be appreciated." So the Transfer Window slams shut on Wednesday at 11pm. Are we expecting anymore business, and if so who? Anyone think the open training session is designed partly to to show off a new signing? This thread is for rumours and discussion, so if you hear something, lets try and post it all on here and with a bit of luck, come 11pm on Wednesday we will have a signing or two to talk about.
I heard from someone at work today who is a Millwall fan that we're in for their CB and captain Paul Robinson.
Sorry if it's been posted elsewhere but I haven't read all the threads. Noticed that some people were discussing Nile Ranger and most agreed he was trouble. Has been arrested on suspicion of breaking a man's jaw. Guess he hasn't changed.
He was thrown out previously by Academy for theft and violence, they'd warn NA or NC on any move. Don't see it at all.
Believe we WILL see a new CB, on the striker front id love to see a player with prem potencial/ experience but im not so sure on that happening, dont think its worth getting another striker if its only mildly better than the players we have atm.
Apparently Everton are prepared to sell Jermaine Beckford, and Saints are first in line with a £3m bid. Everton want to make a signing before deadline day. I am unsure of JB's attitude, HOWEVER Adkins has managed him before, and the boy is definitely full of goals and pace, and could complement our attack superbly. If Nigel brings him in, I am sure he could probably man-manage him as he did at Scunny, and I don't recall any issues back then. If he signs I will be delighted, but cautious. Apparently Moyes has said the club need to free up cash, and that Saints may have to do battle with West Ham, but they might drop out. Approaches also rejected from Forest and Leicester.
Apparently Moyes has said he can go if need be, Everton need the money. I was told it could be appearing in some Sunday Paper's too.
Just saw the Burnley highlights from the football league show. Brilliant hold up play from Jay Rodriguez for the second goal. Looks to have a good touch, natural height and a wee bit of pace from this clip and other viewings I have seen of him. Whilst I think the reported value of 4.5 million is a lot for one player at this level I think he'll fit our team perfectly. Another positive is that he is only young and if he develops at the rate he is showing then you would have to fancy us getting that money back and then some as well as benefitting from the performances which would take him to that level. I could be panic buying slightly here, but would prefer him to Beckford
I'd still rather Jay Rod for £4.5m/£5m but, let's be honest now... Beckford would still be a cracking signing.
Not a great fan of Beckford and never have been; was at St Mary's a couple of years ago when he played in what was a poor Leeds side on the day (they were league leaders). OK, Saints didn't let them play but all Beckford did the whole game was fall over with no-one near him. Has never struck me as someone you want on your side when the chips are down, slight shades of Puncheon in attitude (who is actually technically a skillful player but wasted) At least Adkins knows what he's dealing with in Beckford. There are better strikers out there ready to get on the bus IMO
Rodriguez is an important player for Burnley. I'm sure they won't sell him at any price we would pay..if they did, they'd be admiitting they'd given up on this season whilst we're still in August (rather like us selling Lambert). Think we're stuck with Lambert, Connelly, and Barnard (with Forte as sub) and a very attacking midfield...doesn't sound too bad does it? If we sign any striker, I think it will be a young lad with promise that Adkins can mould. The big guns have gone or are unbuyable.
yes if they good enough - we got a superb group coming through by sounds of it, although probably a year or 2 away yet
