Tributes have been made to city councillor Ken Turner who has died after short illness.
Mr Turner, who represented the Sutton ward for Labour, was the father of Hull East MP Karl Turner.
He was due to retire as a councillor next week to co-incide with the council elections.
Posting on Twitter last night, the MP said: "My wonderful dad, Ken, passed away earlier today after fighting hard for two months against (recently diagnosed) rare, debilitating and fatal brain disorder CJD.
"Thanks to NHS staff and the truly amazing Dove House for their kindness and great care. RIP."

Before becoming a councillor, Mr Turner was a full-time official for the National Union of Seamen for many years.
Operating as branch secretary from an office in Posterngate in Hull's Old Town, he represented merchant seamen working on ships visiting the port as well as staff on the Hull-based passenger ferries.
As well as his union duties he was also one of the organisers of the long-running Seamen's Disaster Fund, set up to help the families of men lost at sea.

BBC reporter Ahmad Shah (29) was killed during an attack in Afghanistan today.

He got in bother for claiming £1,400 for a chauffeur, just to go to a Celtic game.

He's the one and only Reverend Alan Bagshaw.

When I got up to do the eulogy at my Dad's funeral a couple of years ago, I spotted an old man sat at the back of the Crem who my Dad and I used to sit next to at Boothferry Park in the early 70s. I couldn't believe that he was still alive to be honest. He was old then! Anyway, I managed to work a reference into my eulogy about this chap and going to City (which wasn't that difficult, my opening line was "Whenever I spoke to my Dad, he'd ask after Suzi and the kids and I'd ask him if he was monitoring his blood sugar levels and then, inevitably, our conversation would turn to football, specifically Hull City...)
Anyway, this old lad was chuffed to **** and it was a really nice moment as I shook his hand and he told me how much my Dad had meant to him.
Reason I'm saying this Kemps is that funerals can be good, in an odd manner.

the rev bagshaw did my dad's too. it was standing room only at the crematorium and later everyone came up and said nice things about him. the weather was unseasonally nice. if anyone had told me beforehand that i'd enjoy the day of my dad's funeral, i'd've thought they were mad. never so proud of him.

Tough day Kemps but as others have said funerals can be beautiful too mate. At both my parents funerals I looked around and saw smiles and happiness. That told me so much about how people thought about them.
Yes sadness too. Tears loads. Pride yes. Mostly memories.
Hope it all goes well fella.
